Indeed, Powers was notorious for cutting up his illustration work to be used as collage elements in other work. He would also cut the tops off of certain illustrations he thought had value but needed improved composition for display (since a lot of cover illustrations have "blank spots" on the upper third to allow for titles).
I first read the artist's name as Alien Douglas. I love that so that's what I'm calling him now. Very nice piece, by Alien!
