This is actually a two-page illustration for a story entitled Dear Caressa or This Towering Torment by Somtow Sucharitkul.
These are slightly larger than regular size. The story is from 1968.
This is not Maurice Whitman. The art is by Henry C. Keifer, another golden age great, whose art was very distinctive.
This piece is actually on heavy board with a Marvel Copyright stamp on back. So I believe this was more than just a commission. I think this was intended as a frontispiece for one of the larger format Hulk Magazines, but not used.
Thank you for the kind words. These were samples for a noir horror series I was trying to pitch in the early 90's. I had a concept and drew the first four pages, but couldn't find a writer to finish the project with me.
