A Queer Legacy (1906) chapter illustration by Modest Stein Owner: E DLS Comment posted on 5/15/2025 In 1906, Theodore Roosevelt was president. There was no federal reserve system. The two world wars had not occurred yet. The Fort Model T had not been produced yet. America was a very different place. I too have never heard of this artist, but he represents what is great about America - someone who came from another country to realize his dreams in the United States. And what a piece of art this is! The line work is beautifully detailed and the expressions on the faces are just beautiful. I am very happy to see this piece in your collection and I hope I will see it in person someday. Congratulations, my friend! |

Eowyn and the Witch-king of Angmar by David Wenzel Owner: A K Comment posted on 1/10/2025
Bill J said:
Wow! I am blown away by your collection of paintings from Lord of the Rings by David Wenzel! What a wonderful treasure trove of paintings of classic scenes from my favorite fantasy series! This painting of Eowyn facing the Witch-King of Angmar is one of my favorite scenes from the whole series. I was always thrilled by Eowyn's revealing herself before she slays the Lord of the Nazgűl, Wenzel does a remarkable job here of portraying the scene. I love the look of the Nazgul, rearing up as Eowyn charges forward. I love Wenzel's restrained color palette that creates an almost mystical look to the paintings. Fantastic commission, congrats! ![]() Thank you for the kind comment, Bill! David is really a watercolor wizard. |

John Constantine the Hellblazer by Mike McKone Owner: A K Comment posted on 11/20/2024
Bill J said:
Fantastic watercolor painting of John Constantine by Mike McKone. Mike did a really nice jojb on this. He captured the arrogant, pissed-off attitude that Constantine always has. Love the white shirt and skinny tie but it's the trench coat that really makes the character. Love the London fog background. Fantastic pick-up, congrats! ![]() Thank you, Bill, for the thoughtful comment. |

Thor #418 Page 19 by Ron Frenz & Joe Sinnott Owner: A K Comment posted on 8/7/2024
Bill J said:
Wow! Killer Thor page by Ron Frenz and Joe Sinnott! What a fantastic action page with Hercules taking out the Wrecking Crew with less effort than taking out the garbage. Love that first panel with Herc slamming two villains' heads together! Then, when the Absorbing Man throws his Ball and Chain at Herc, the Demigod simply catches it and crushes it between his hands! Finally he takes out the Wrecker himself with a blow that would kill anyone else. Stunning action scenes by Frenz are given the Joe SInnott treatment, making them look like classic scenes from the original Thor comic! Marvelous pick-up, ccngrats! ![]() Thank you, Bill! Frenz and Sinnott are a great combination. Thank you for the detailed write-up! |
