Cheers Rhandy! Completely took me by surprise that he'd do a painted version of a con sketch he did for me a number of years ago. One day I was moaning to Ben about him not liking Spidey, the next this turns up!
Actually no one really got their way in the end. DeFalco and Frenz wanted Richard Fisk to be the HG, but were removed from the book before its conclusion. Peter David was then bought in by Priest to finish the story, with Ned Leeds being revealed as the HG. However this just pissed off readers. In the end, after 10 years, Roger Stern was bought back on to write "Hobgoblin Lives", where his original choice for secret identity, Roderick Kingsley, was finally cemented as the original HG. Basically it was one huge mess, that in my opinion ended up curtailing the DeFalco/Frenz run, which is a great era of ASM!
I think more than anything, Ron's removal from the book was as a result of getting caught in the crossfire between DeFalco and Priest, over the Hobgoblin identify saga. Rather than being anything to do with his chosen style.

John Dell inks on this one, Marcus. I have a version inked by Scott Hanna too, but John's version definitely is far superior in terms of level of finish!
Wonderful pickup! No one tops Jim's depiction of Spider-Man IMO.
