We both love Siya's work, but the detail in pencil for Peter to paint shows such reverence to Turner. What a perfect piece, not only in the visual narrative, but the creative significance. Beautiful addition, Johnny!
At 60% off for one day only, there was no way I could stay in hiding. This cover has been on my wishlist since Tatiana listed it. I literraly subbed to this book after I picked this fascinating relatailer incintive up of the newstand. I really thought it might be digital until it showed up on TDArt some years later.
It is really great to see you, Johnny! It has been too long. I need to go check out your new gallery pieces this year.
Stay tuned over the next few days. I'm over a year behind in uploading, and I have some really cool Alex pieces I haven't shown off yet! ;)
Thanks for checking it out! I love his roughs. It amazes me to this day how much movement and depth he could get in just a few masterful squiggles, then how close the actual paneling always turned out. I've read published works where I didn't find the finished lines as fascinating as Big John roughs. I can look at these all day.
Permanent collection. In my will to my daughter. ❤️
The man crushes all of his challenges. I'm glad to add this pulp culture piece of relevance to my collection, but I am habitually impressed by what he is currently working on.
A heartfelt thank you for seeing the composition's beauty as well. I was also drawn to this illustration for reason I cannot completely articulate. This is more that a random pinup. It captures light on a subject of nostalgia in interesting ways.
So many shading layers! I had to add add her to my CAF collection. I have other beautiful pieces from the artist, but I felt that Batwoman definitely needed to be shared with our community.
Agreed! There is something almost perfect about this expression. Thanks for giving it a look. I'm captivated with this artist's growth and potential.
You're quite welcome. I really was drawn to the bright backlit and soft frontal shading. Edson did a splendid job layering. The image really pop to life!
Thanks for all the comments, Folks! I knew Alex would deliver on a Predator based on his older work. He would absolutely rock as an illustrator for a Predator run, especially if it were off-planet and he could let his creativity soar in alien environments.
Alex dipped into his awesome primal stuff from Eternal Soulfire, adding white highlights and ink wash layers. This is so cool to look at.
She may be vintage, but she looks terrific. You hardly notice the wrinkles...
Prior to framing, I'm going to need to address that crease. Comic boards are a rough paper to restore. It might, unfortunately, just have to stay. It makes her look more distinguished and wiser anyway.
Had to! It wasn't even an option. LOL
Now to figure out if it goes to framing or a convention sketch portfolio.
Thanks! This book is wonderful, and I hope he finishes it. I've been on the lookout for years but will keep my eyes open for a piece for you too, Johnny.
What a cool darkling theme! I love this so much.
The perfect Storm Dragon! Anthony CRUSHED it! I love it so much. Thanks for coordinating for us, Tatiana. You're the best!
I just discovered that it was published by MG Publishing as the cover for issue 3 in Germany. Wild!
Thanks, man! It took a while, but we both knew it was inevitable. I've been looking at it all day.
RIGGGGGHT! Siya moved me to well-up with tears of joy when I read this page. I knew from the second that I saw it that it was coming home.
Thanks!!! We both got a nice Siya piece from that night of trading art and drinking old fashioneds on your porch! As an interior cover I was really worried about how to scan it without hurting the bind. I figured Siya opened it enough to do the piece, so I should be OK to scan it. The book looks perfect afterward, so all that worrying for nothing.
Thanks, Stefan. I got this in July from Johnny McCloskey. I am just now catching up on scans and uploads this year.
OMG! This cover was made just for you, Man! Congrats!
You and me both, friend. I was shocked to see this up for auction. Thank you for sharing my enthusiasm! :)
A terrific CAF member not only helped me find that it was linked to the Star Kid movie in 1997, but I soon discovered that it is actually the cover to the first Dark Horse issue of Warrior of Waverly Street. How awesome is that? I found it as an unpublished illustration that was "maybe a cover" and we ended up recovering lost cover art. That just made my day! Thank you so much with the assist CAF community member!
Thanks! I'm reaching out to Geof to find out what it is all about. I have no idea about the history or possible publication of this piece. In theory, it was done for a cover.
Thanks! Pre-IH Joe doing a Marvel tryout on a DC board no less. I really liked the domesticated Hulk feel back when I picked this up, but now that Joe has had such an iconic run on Hulk it is even better.
The colorist added a Canadian maple leaf to them. LOL
Added hi-res scans of published covers. ;)
The work is so interesting, and he left plenty of room for colorist interpretation.
Thanks, guys. I was smitten when I saw the published cover on the stand and went hunting for the OA. This is a stunning piece. The more I looked, the more publications I found. I wouldn't be surprised to find even more, especially advertisements.
Thanks! Joe Benitez and Joe Weems V make a great team.
Exactly what I thought. This has been a grail interior for me for years. Marc and Mike working together... It really just doesn't get better than this.
Joe did an awesome job with lighting and texture. Friggin' amazing piece!
Wow. It just takes your breath away.
I like both characters a lot but pretty much gave them dealer's choice. Jason likes Wolvie and Joe is my favorite Predator illustrator. At dinner, with Joe he said Wolverine vs Predator in passing. I loved the idea. They made it happen at Bakersfield Comic Con the next day!
Thanks! As a holiday incentive Alé tossed this in as an extra with a cover I purchased from him. I was blown away.
Thanks, Johnny! Probably my favorite page of the issue.
When I saw the naked publication in the back of the TPB I thought it was funny that color ignored the ink and left the "x"s on her leg. Wild.
I totally agree. The composition really drew me to it. Being off-centered my eyes immediately wanted to understand what was happening. Talking to Phil about working on the project, he pulled the original pencils out from behind the inked page in his portfolio to explain his idea on adding the notebook paper. When the piece came together for me and I saw the published book I was captivated with how much story was in the image.
Up close it is a terrific piece of work... and huge! It took nearly the entire surface of my scanner.
