Wow, some of my art ended up in France. That's really cool. I remember inking that page in my studio. Took about 7 hours to complete. Thanks for giving me a smile on a dreary day in the States, and thanks for being a fan of the art!
I loved inking this piece. I wish I hadn't sold it, to be honest, but hindsight is 20/20. After I submitted the cover, Fabrizio, the penciller, called me, and, in his EXTREMELY thick Milanese accent he said "You got the tooth! The tooth!" It took a minute to understand him, but I was like, "OH! The missing tooth in one skull? Yeah, I thought that was a great touch!" He was difficult to understand because of his accent, but man, he was one hell of a talented, classically trained artist. I truly enjoyed working over his pencils. I still have a bunch of pages I worked on over him. A photocopy of this page, pencils and inks both, is STILL in my comic book portfolio. Good memories!

I remember inking this page, and this issue. Mike was moving from Arlington Heights, Illinois, across the country, so he did breakdowns in his hotel rooms as he drove cross-country. This issue was entirely finishes, more than inks, but I had worked over Mike often enough by then that I knew what he intended and how to interpret his loose pencils to match his usually extremely tight pencils. Haven't talked to him in years, sadly. He was one of my favorite pencilers to work with, ever.
Tight, attentive to deadlines, fast, accurate, and a super nice guy to boot. Mike Ryan is one hell of an artist. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, all!
