Coming back to me now... he was doing an oil painting. Explained that it takes weeks for the oil to dry. I was fascinated. I remember the whole convversation now - just not his name :)
Thanks! I'll correct the title. I had a short conversation with him, but I didn't note down the name. I tried going over the guests list on the website to see if I recognize the face/name, but didn't see him.
Interesting...
Because when I met him in September, and he asked "what can i daraw for you" and I said "Guy Gardener's face with Batman's fist closing on it", he said I was the first to ask for this. Guess he was pulling my leg (trying to not tell me how unoriginal I was 😉).
At any rate, that JLI run was hilarious, and that moment from it is still reverberating (see latest issue of TK's Human Target 😀).
Devil's Due is still around! Give them a try! And Josh (the owner) is a great guy.
Yeah, that's the "American Spirit". There's a great story about a couple from NC who used to do research into what the hottest toy would be this season, rent a bunch of U-Hauls and empty every Toy'r'Us, Walmart, and Targets in north NC. They then rented a warehouse and sold it back to people at a premium. They were the reason Walmart inveted the "no more than 2 to a customer".
You call it scalping, they call it capitalism.

The title is definitely some sort of a handmade cutout - it actually looks 3D in life, and is a bit thick. The price/creator names/Vertigo imprint are flatter, and look like they're cut and pasted from somewhere else. It also looks like they're in different locations on the final product.
I wonder what went on there, and why did anyone feel the need to paste those directly on the art.
The subway scene looks much better in the original pieace than on the final cover, in my humble opinion (rounder ... lines 😃).
If you liked the final art, look at his video drawing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oTj40TIq2M
Thanks man! I feel lucky. Was totally surprised my offer was accepted. Love Ruan's style, but now I'm compelled to find more. This hobby is turning into an addiction :)
Thanks!
Always hoped they'd continue the book, or develop the IP some other way.
But according to Jeff, when Marvel bought CrossGen all the IP went into limbo. And then Marvel went through several ownerships (most recently Disney), so no one will touch any CrossGen material 😟.
