I've heard that before as well, but I think the originals have more border than appears in the print version. I'd have to take it out of the frame to verify that.

When I moved to Maryland as a kid I worked for Joel Pollack owner of Big Planet Comics and one time art dealer for Berni. I remember visiting his house and seeing the title splash for Frankenstein hanging in the front hallway and I was floored. Now I visit Berni's Frankenstein peices in museums when I get the chance. Such a talent.
I not sure these were painted four to a page and cut up. I think they were just printed that way.
