Best ROM villain. Always enjoyed when Hybrid squared off with ROM.
This book started off with some real promise. Pollard and Giordano made a great art team.
Striking layout on this one. That last row of panels is quite disturbing (in a good way).
It's these kind of pages that made me really appreciate what Moore was doing in his Dr. Strange series. Congrats!
To some extent, I'm sure. While I'm sure they'll have their Kirby, I'm sure they'll also draw attention to other lesser-known artists.
Forgot to comment on this when you originally posted but this Muñoz page is a real stunner. What a talent and what a classic series.
Even more extreme than how the character is depicted in the comic.
Medina's depiction of Death evokes a tintype photo. Nice.
Enjoyed his work on American Splendor. Sad to hear of his passing.
He was very apologetic and he's in his 80s. I let it slide.
Always enjoyed For Better or Worse. It seemed more sophisticated than other strips and Johnston could really draw.
I look through this issue once in a while when you post pages. This is definitely one of the best pages in the book and, once again, confirmation of how good an artist Spiegle was.
This has so much of Darwyn's trademark dynamism and fluidity.
As you said, a real talent as a visual artist and storyteller.
Rude leveled up with every issue and this storyline brought out the best in his art. Every panel has something visually interesting going on.
So much of what makes Harren great in a single image!
Ghoulish, whimsical, and beautiful all at once.
Terrific example and timely since Quacky is going to be the lead in Woodring's next book.
What happened to this guy? I remember liking his work back in the day and this is an excellent example of what he's capable of.
Excellent example of what makes the character (and Sakai) so great.
I like that red and white predominate in the image, even in the background where you'd expect to see blue or green.
I always liked the composition and color work on this Cash page. Terrific addition from a young superstar.
Hmm...looks very familiar 🤔
Allison packs a lot of rendering into a small space. A great one!
I just assumed Hellboy was teaming up with Zabu.
I had long since checked out of Byrne's work by this point but it's interesting to see how he drew Spider-Man at a later point in his career. I far prefer his Spidey here to how he drew him earlier in his career. Nicely done and I appreciate the classic cartooning trope in panel two with the stars around Spidey's head.
From what I've seen of his previous work, Dall'O's line was heavily influenced by Harren and DWJ. Here, his Death seems reminiscent of Buckingham while the rooftops evoke Mignola cityscapes. You can see the influences here but they all resolve into a very charming commission that shows Dall'O's evolution as an artist. I'm not a commission guy but the result here speaks for itself.
A simply glorious page. All of what you could want in a Beto page from the early days.
As much as I adore Clowes' stories, these one-pagers are really my favorite.
It's been a minute since some great Jaime Hernandez art was posted on CAF. Great early story in which you can see Jaime building out his Locas world and fleshing out the characters.
Makes me want to see an issue of this title drawn by Pope. It'll never happen but he'd kill it.
Gorgeous composition. In the end, Johnny was probably right about Billy Joel 🤣.
Leandro's an excellent artist, as this page shows. Beautiful establishing shots before the reveal in that last half page. Stewart's colors really pair well with his art as well.
Classic staging and posing, especially if you've watched enough anime. Nice one!
This shows what made Wieringo so great. He had a nearly perfect blend of cartooniness and realism.
I was wondering who would pick up this cover of Judah and Gladys. Congratulations!
I didn't get much time with Steve at OAX but I'm happy he was there and does more shows like this. I also hope that 2027 is the year you get the full OAX experience.
