Boy, I HATE the logo that covers up ALL of that lush background! "AvsX"? Really? Worse than "Who do you trust?". It's WHOM! WHOM! ... I'm okay now.

When it comes to that, desperately and fruitlessly seeking public facilities while touring New York gave my wife and me our first inking as to why New Yorkers are like they are.

Oh, NICE. I really like the juxtaposition of Scott's right hand and the left hand of the frieze's central draped figure.

I dunno. The drapery folds look so angular and sharp-edged they lose the character of cloth, seeming more like elaborately carved wood. Is the bedpost, which we know to be wood--right?--supposed to offer the contrast which helps the drapery feel like cloth? I'm trying to see it that way. I'm gona get out my Wrightson illo'ed Frankenstein and my Franklin Booth 100 Drawings and see what they did in similar circumstances. I also miss seeing some indication of the woman's body under the drapery. It'd give the area greater spacial clarity. I'm still in awe of your draughtsmanship and compositional sense. Great Gothic mood over all.

Robert, have you seen Burton Silverman's painting from this era? It looks very much like this. I recently acquired his "how-to" painting book from the mid-70's, entitled PAINTING PEOPLE--and it's much more than just another how-to art book--and there were a number of pieces in the book where I found myself thinking, "Jeez, that looks like Jones!"

Cooke's take is the best, and you've got a great example! I wish his successors on the character took pains to render the "Emma Peel crinkly leather" look. I am so over even Adam Hughes' painted-on latex look!

lovely. I think Windsor-Smith is the only Kirby-emulator--from early in his career, when he was Barry Withouthehyphen-Smith--who saw past the POWER of Kirby's figures to appreciate their balletic grace, and incorporate that sensibility into his own work. He certainly brings out that grace in his inking here!
