stunning work of art!  congrats on acquiring this museum piece.

regarding the published page colors, the scans I've seen (not the TPB) all still seem to be color corrected and too saturated (do an eyedropper sample of the word bubbles and you'll see they are 100% white).  This video shows the page from the comic and it's slightly a bit yellow (I'm attributing to the paper quality) and looks much better IMHO.

hi randall-  the art itself has a 1983 datestamp on the back  but this was originally slated to be seen in marvel premiere and was announced around 1978 in a letters page. you can see up in the upper left corner top that the words "marvel premiere" have a black line covering them up. this is very visible on the Marvel Fanfare issue 11 page 2 pic that i  have in my gallery.  This story sat until Marvel Fanfare was created-  a lot of the stories in those early books were inventory stories sitting around.

Thanks for the reply Robert, and the tip about the 1978 letters page.  Curious why Marvel decided to sit on a 4-issue prime era Perez Black Widow comic for 4-5 years!  Classic stuff.  Thanks again for posting.

Very cool.  Interested to know the history of this, since Perez famously left Marvel for DC in 1980, yet this wasn't published until 1983.  Is there a date stamp on the back?  Either case, congrats on some cool art!

Beautiful!  It's when Lisa began falling for Rick where they shade her face with more warm blush.  Very romantic as they had that Top Gun feel for love of flying before Top Gun ever came out.

Yes! Macross is what I would have imagined a Top Gun inspired mecha anime to look and feel like, but obviously they created it all on their own.  Romance of flying indeed.

When I acquired this cel, it actually came with a different background print, which had Rick walking down a dark corridor.  As I went to hunt down the scene, I discovered it was supposed to be an outdoor shot with Lisa, which made me appreciate it all the more.

Also any background that better showcases Rick's hairdo is a keeper.

First Beast as an Avenger!  Growing up in the 80s I only knew Beast as an Avenger.  I think he even clocked more time as an Avenger than as an X-man by the end of this run.  Turning Hank McCoy into a literal Beast was a smart move by Conway/Englehart.  Congrats!

You're absolutely spot on with your description of this page.  It defined the character of Wolverine.  I distinctly remember reading this issue when it came out.  I was a military brat living in Germany in the 80s and my brother bought the comic at the Star & Stripes bookstore in Frankfurt.  It's still as impactful now as it was then.  Congrats!

Congrats, Randall! Jesse and Tulip are key, of course...but man, that bull skull. What a time to be a PREACHER fan/collector!

Haha thanks Felix.  I thought I'd join the club.  I'll take a Fabry bull skull if I can't get a sinewy Fabry hand.  I was the under bidder (or close to) on a couple of the other Jesse/Tulip covers.  These last few auctions are gonna be nuts (Preacher 3 cover... maybe $40K+?).  And you're right, this is a major opportunity for the fans.  These covers may not resurface for another 20+ years!  Appreciate Simon letting some of these find new homes.

A lovely example from early in the run as Preacher was estabishing itself as the new flagship title under Vertigo.  Very nice painting that resembles paperback covers with the unrelated proportions of the elements.

Thanks Marcus!  I can totally see it now. Angelville, A tale of love and revenge in the Deep South... the new novel from Danielle Steel.  This needs a mock-up. 😄
