Ruben, Thank you for the kind words. How awesome that you remember this. This piece was a blast to do. I did more than a few pieces for that mag, they were great guys to work with. I believe Cover & Hamilton had the idea and I was glad to be asked to do it. I went on to do some professional work {Southern Knights among others} and I have been a working professional in graphic design, illustration and concept design since. Mark, thank you. While most of his predecessors saw comic books as a stepping stone in their artistic careers, Wood saw storytelling as his primary artistic medium. I believe he was one of the first artists to intentionally devote himself to our favorite art form. His contributions speak for themselves and I love his work. It is simply heart breaking to consider how he chose to live and eventually end his life.
Thank you so much. I wanted to make a visual connection between the movie "Batman Begins" and the Dave Mazzucchelli work on "Batman Year One'. Hence, the pose, logo and the bats. I believe the movie owes much to "yr. 1"
Yeah, Mike is a master storyteller. Had the pleasure of chatting with him at Wizard world Philly. Mike knows exactly where to freeze the camera. I could talk for days about what I have learned from this guy. Like most truly brilliant storytellers, he is a humble and kind person.
