Daniel does great work, but not as well known as some. The image does the painting no justice, I wish someone in my area did some larger format scanning. Thanks!
Wish I could have bought the original painting Earl Norem did for this with my license at Topps. Long story, but they told me it would be in their archives and I couldn't purchase, then they sold it. Would love to see it today!
That could be. I got it from a dealer locally that claimed his father had been an agent/manager for a number of illustrators like Baumhoffer, Kunstler, and others. Not sure what to think of his claims, but he had a spectacular collection and gave me a great lead on where many of the Doc Savage pulp covers may be. I was lucky enough to talk to Mr. Bama on some projects my company was doing and he didn't have much interest in talking paperback, but more of the Aurora monster box paintings. We had a few interesting talks about them, one of the things he has told me was that he was glad he was legally blind at that point, as it made it much easier to turn down people that asked him to paint still. He was happy on his rowing machine, reading with the help of a large magnifier. I got this after he passed away, I wish I would have been able to ask him about it. Not sure what he would have told me though! I guess I should check with one of the local paperback dealers to see if he has an idea. Out of curiosity, does yours have a tag on the back with a collection name?
If I remember getting correct, he had a small stack he did in advance of the show. They really did turn out so nice.
It was such an interesting thing when complete. A few of the old Aurora collectors were sure they had had this kit back in the 60's, truly believing it was a vintage kit.
Daniel has done some beautiful work with the Universal Monsters films, this is so perfect!
I was kind of lucky to get the one Bama I have, that whole death thing is catching up with a lot of us I guess. Such a nice guy, I was lucky enough to speak with him a number of times and have him autograph some items for me.
Wow, would love to have it but a little out of my current price range! Thanks for the link!
Interesting to know. There was a PSA/DNA cert with them so I was pretty positive they were legit but didn't know all of that. Thanks so much!
Thanks! Nice thing about both the Betties I posted is she signed them. I keep thinking to ask Olivia if she signed with her, or the previous owner had some arrangement to have done. Tough autograph I had always thought.
At the time he did this one, he had a whole line of similar, kind of a mashup of Star Wars and Calvin & Hobbs. I have some others I'm going to post that was based on a set of characters he called Wookie the Chew as a similar mashup with Winnie the Pooh and Star Wars. Really imaginitive stuff. I wish he was a little better known as some of his work is really fantastic.
