I understand why so many people love Maguire's female characters... they are amazing. But for my money, this page is a page I would be heavily drawn to. 10 out of 10. What a great piece!!!
I LOVE Tom's work. This is an awesome piece... great characters in great action by a great artist. WELL DONE!
Thanks Bob. I probably gotta say, "Yabba Dabba Doo!"
Oh, I LOVE me some Teen Titan cels. Great pieces in your collection!!!!!
I LOVED this series and am so excited to see another MM fan with a cover. KUDOs!
Thanks Marcus. I was/am 90 percent certain they are coloring book. I just couldn't nail down a year and then ultimately a cover and that would make these even more cool than they already are.
What a fantastic page. I'm a sucker for untraditional panels and this one really rocks. Congrats!
You can color me GREEN with envy. What an AWESOME cel...WOW! LOVE IT!
As much as I love the long middle panel, that LAST panel is just awesome! WOW!
Were you selling this at one time? I saw it for sale on CAF once but it was too late to purchase. I was thrilled (and very surprised) to see it in an auction. And to be blunt, I was STUNNED that more people didn't bid on this. It is such a dynamic image. PLUS... Sears' art seems to be appreciating in value. So fortunate to have it part of my collection.
I agree Nils. I get sooo tired of "stories"that take 8 issues and 4 crossovers to tell. Some good old fashion 1 and done stuff would be great!
With the art prices going up so much, I have turned my eye to collecting animation cels for now. I can tell you...THIS ONE IS AWESOME! GREAT PICK!
As a kid, I never really paid attention to which artist did which book. But I DID know that Brave and the Bold and Aquaman were my favorites. In hindsight, Aparo's art was 90% of that draw. I'd buy a book because of it's cover (thanks Nick Cardy or Adams) and then see how different the interior was and become so disappointed (usually Dillin). But not on an Aparo book. For me... he was and is the gold standard for that time period.
Wow... all four panels are amazing. What a great page!!!
I'm missing it. What does this have to do with the theme this month (New Avengers and Antiheroes)???
MANY things i loved about this post. (1) I love seeing other collectors posting animation cels; especially since comic art has gotten SOOO expensive! (2) This is is great ROBIN-in-action cel. Great pick up (3) I did the same with my Star Trek animation cels, where I actually watched the episodes to find where the cel actually was used.
Thank you for finding and putting up the published version. It REALLY highlights the quality of work done by Doug's pencils and how the processing of the day would muddy or mask the amazing work. I'm a big Wildey fan and find this page to be just stellar. Great pick up!
These are AWESOME! I loved both artists individually, but together? Dude... these are gold. Buckler/Giordano level gold. Nice!
Although Alvin made me laugh, Theodore was my favorite. Ross Bagdasarian was a genius with his creations!
I have always loved the Ragman character. Having a Kubert version of him in action... sublime! Nice pickup!
In a way, I think this is even better than the finished page. It really shows his thoughts and process. WONDERFUL piece for your collection.
Great piece. I loved Gentleman Ghost as a Hawkman villain and thought Kramer was awesome on this issue
Unfamiliar with this artist...I am mesmerized by his art. Gone are the days where an artist can seemingly "take time" to put so much into it. Thanks for posting/sharing
For the discerning Viking collector, this is an UNDERWATER Filmation Viking. Because... you know... Aquaman. Don't get fooled by those land-walkers. Good luck!
I can't decide what I love most about this. The dynamic Hawkman that is front and center, the cowl-spread mysterious Batman, or the overall tone of the piece with the docks and the rain/lightning done so beautifully by Aparo's pencils and inks. Can we call it a tie? GREAT piece!
This is stunning. I'm a sucker for "outside the panel" pieces. I'll bet this is even better in person. NICE!
I agree. I went back and read the run before getting the page and it was really good. That Espoinage Squad story had as much possible story-gold to mine as the Substitute Heroes squad.
Great page. As a comics fan since the 60's, I always dreamed of a crossover like this so I LOVED it. You've got a great page that is at the very heart of the concept while also placing two of the iconic company characters along side the guy who is causing the crossover to happen. I'll say it again... GREAT page!
A child of the 90's I'm guessing? They had a comeback several different times with music and movies. I'm more from the era of "Witch Doctor", "Japanese Banana", "I Wish I Had a Horse", and of course the Christmas classic "Christmas Don't Be Late".
Defininetly multi-generational!
That is hilarious! I doubt Leo even considered that as a possible "OW" option. I don't remember exactly when but Sammy Sosa once sneezed so hard he hurt his back.
Thanks to "Mathew Mac Rey Reynolds", I learned that YouTube has all the music used for JQ. It was created by Hoty Curtain (mastermind behind many HB cartoons) and just thinking about it I can hear the horns and drums. SO good!
I can agree this is an under-appreciated gem. Great piece!
Thanks! Yeah, they really did a nice quality job. Too bad art like this doesn't get more attention within the show. This piece really is a gem!
What a perfect image of the Surfer on his board. Beautiful page!
Great observation. I always wondered about the design choices for the "Sword" version. The neckalce, the big boots, the belt (especially that big belt). I didn't know about Broderick's work on Micronauts so I went an looked...yeah, that's definitely similar.
I totally agree. Have you ever looked up his Sherlock Holmes work? It is very much "of the period" but truly great. Great level of detail for a 4-panel strip and he had some beautiful shading techniques along the lines of Franlink Booth. He should be a rock star to comic art collectors...at least he is for me.
I love how Leo would place so many great depictions of the game in a clever way. O'Mealia is amazing. Nice work getting several into your collection.
Thanks for the added info. That makes a lot of sense why and how they would find such a great way to use him. His character work just makes me smile every time
