The sultry, dynamic pose of the geisha and the rich atmospheric details draw the viewer into a scene dripping with intrigue and exoticized drama, hallmarks of the genre. Popp’s skill in rendering light, texture, and expression elevates the work beyond mere sensationalism, making it a prime example of classic illustration art from the golden age of men’s adventure magazines. Who needs superheroes?

It's not commonly known that Mike Sekowsky pencilled some Orgasma stories, inked by Nick.  But I'm not sure why Nick went through the trouble of doing a second version.  Also, Don Heck was also the first Orgasma artist (July 1976 issue), although Nick was actually the credited artist on that story.

interesting- then I wonder if one was inked by Cardy, and one was redrawn and inked by Cardy?  They are 2 very different styles, and since I can't find the printed mag, I hae no way to know which version was used.

This page screams 1970s midnight movie fare, with a gruesome death in the top tier and some grim political commentary by Nathaniel "Blackbyrd" (um, because he's Black) Byrd in the bottom tier.  This almost looks like George Perez art if you squint hard enough.  Overall, a cool page, congrats!

Thanks Lee! I have a page before this page, just need to track that down to get this whole sequence!

These early 1970s Buscema/Chan Conan pages look so nice.  At this point, I have to think John Buscema was doing a bit more than the rough layouts that he later did on the title.  Great pick-up Sean!

Thanks Lee, 100% agree, the later Chan finishes over Buscema layouts where way too heavy handed in Savage Sword. This has a good balance.

Loved this issue as a kid!  Jim told me he did full pencils on this story, though the credits have him doing layouts only.  I suspect the last 8 pages or so were penciled by Bob Budiansky.  Jim also told me the artwork from this story was never returned to him because he didn't leave a forwarding address with Marvel after Shooter fired him.

Interesting- a few pages all sold on HA last year. Sucks Jim didn't get his portion returned.  I"m curious how they split it up when there are a mix of full pencils, layouts, and multiple inkers.
