More classic characters and a nice little self portrait! Not sure if you remember David, but you sent me a zerox of this page and some others when I bought a couple of Bode drawings from you many years ago! I've still got em somewhere amongst my Bode collection...
Thanks David, that's some very interesting insight into your sketch and the classic Lizard of Oz piece! I can recall reading about Vaughn's support of the Air Pirates cause, but never knew he auctioned 'himself' off like that at the convention ...very generous, though not surprising considering his strong feelings about the rights of cartoonists etc!
Hey there Mr Fiend! Apologies for the belated reply, I didn't realize you'd responded to my comment, so only saw this after I came back for another taste of your superb Bode collection! Thanks for your flattering comment by the way, I think we must have a simpatico going, as the next artist I immediately checked out in your vast collection was none other than Walt Kelly! Another underrated Master and huge influence on the young Cartoon Gooroo.
Classic little Bodé broad, with trademark wandering butterfly! I notice that it's made out to David, I assume this isn't a coincidence? Did Bode draw this for you at a convention perhaps? Would love to know more...
Again, another rare Bode treat! Really love the way you've included the original BW page and the 'colorized' page done by Heavy Metal. The different interpretations of coloring are amazing. It's such a shame that Vaughn was unable to publish Sunpot in glorious color, but even in BW it still shines ...and I've heard many people cite it as a fave work.
Thank you posting such an impressive scan of Vaughn's last published piece of Erotica! The colors on this are incredible and I imagine they probably still don't do it justice! As many of us Bode fans will probably never acquire full color piece, it's a real treat to see these presented in such a clear, vibrant way... :)
WOW! What an amazing little sketch ...not only signed, but addressed by da Bode! I believe he used to accompany lots of his letters and notes with tiny sketches and cartoons. Anyway, there's definitely a resemblance to The Man and he even has a trusty stick!
