Thanks -- I'll add your scan to the Additional Images here for everyone to enjoy.
Wow -- congrats! Fantastic page and some peak Giffen/Mahlstedt art!
Very cool! Thanks for posting the pencils! You definitely kept the essence of Ditko's pencils while adding a lot of detail.
Nice cover! I really enjoyed Adam Kubert's run on the Hulk and it was a great bonus when Joe joined him on a few of the issues!
Great image and Happy 100th b-day to Gil Kane! This is a great example of why Marvel had Gil draw so many of their covers in the 70s!
Very nice! I really loved Steve Geiger's art on the Hulk and was sorry he didn't end up doing more issues.
Wow! Gruesome yet beautiful at the same time! I'm always flabbergasted by the amount of detail Bernie put into these Frankenstein illustrations!
Beautiful page! This was one of the issues that made me a lifetime Dave Cockrum fan from an early age!
Great page! I really enjoyed all of the classic guest artist appearances in this issue!
Congrats -- nice pickup! To me this was the peak period for the Legion. I like all eras of Giffen art, but this is my favorite, especially when he was being inked by Larry Mahlstedt!
Great pickup! Definitely one of Dave's better late-era pieces and Palmer did a great inking job! I've been admiring this piece for a while, but was too cheap to pick it up myself :)
Yeah and the art was extra large sized with no logos or text. I'll have to try and dig up an old scan as it doesn't seem to be up on CAF. I owned it from 1999 to late 2004.
Great page! We don't get to see enough Romita Sr. Hulk art! One of my biggest collecting regrets is that I once owned the cover to this issue and foolishly sold it in the early 2000s.
Fun splash -- I've always enjoyed Pat Broderick's take on the Legion! It's also good that Patterson inked this as Broderick's inking was generally in markers that have faded pretty badly over time.
Awesome! I'm really impressed with all of the great Davis commissions from OAX!
Wow - beautiful page! I love Janson's inking from this period!
Great splash! This is Inhumans #5 page 1. I'm guessing there's a slightly reduced size stat version out there with minor changes as the published version has some small differences around the edges (along with text and word balloons).
Wow -- great page! I really liked Ernie Chan's inking over Sal Buscema on these Hulk issues.
Great page and I really liked this Cap/Hulk crossover as a kid! Just very sad news about Sal today :(
Wow -- that's an INCREDIBLE Hulk page!! I always liked Joe Staton's inking over Sal.
Very cool! That was published in Charlton Bullseye #1 in 1975. Interesting combination to have new artist John Byrne inking directly over Ditko's pencils from 1967 (intended for Captain Atom #90). This was reprinted by DC in 2007 in The Action Heroes Archives #2.
Very nice! It's great you were able to identify the issue this came from. While I'm more of a Marvel guy, I do really love Dave's style from this era and it's too bad he didn't get to ink more of his own art at Marvel.
Nice Wolverine sketch! I remember those 3-packs fondly and X-Men #104 was also one of the first comics I remember reading.
Wow -- congrats on the great pickup! I guess Sunfire was really serious since he hasn't shown up in X-Men comics too often since then.
Great Nightcrawler sketch! I also love Cockrum's early X-Men, but I'm a huge fan of his artwork in general.
Ha - yeah thanks! I guess Chaykin was definitely going for a space western theme here.
Nice page and thanks for posting the back! I've never heard Gil being referred to as Gilbert before!
Thanks for sharing. I've always loved Steve's art and can't believe he's been gone for 5 years now.
Amazing piece of art! Glad I got to see it in person recently!
Very cool! I had no idea that Gil Kane ever worked on the Spidey strip. As much as I like Romita, it would have been nice if they had let Gil finish a few of these himself.
Great page - especially the dramatic bottom right panel! Is there White-Out on Stan's face in panel 2? That looks like Marie Severin's work to me as opposed to Dave C.
Very cool! I'm guessing Dave drew this for a fanzine shortly before going pro, but no idea if it was published or not.
Yeah I've only ever seen one other page from this book for sale (page 8) and then the Spidey pages with the Hulk are super expensive! Those Defenders pages are still a fairly good deal.
Really nice Storm page! Dave's second X-Men run was a bit under-appreciated at the time, but he and Rubinstein did some great work!
Great page from Cockrum's peak period! Lucky for you I forgot to bid and you got a really good deal :)
Very nice page! Byrne's Hulk run was short, but it feels like a lot happened and it did setup several of the storylines that Peter David would pickup on.
Wow -- that's a really great commission! Not sure how I never noticed this before. Let me know if you ever want to part with it :)
Yeah I think Dave gave up on the LSH homage since Claremont and Byrne had already introduced a few new members in X-Men #137. I checked the comic and the bottom panel is the first appearance of the "Borderers" division of the Guard with new members (from left to right) Sea Spine, Webwing, Sp'yxx, Trypthe and Blackthorn. The feline guy on the left is N'rill'irēē who was introduced in issue #155,
Wow-- fantastic page! I love Cockrum's Imperial Guard designs and this is beautifully illustrated. I'll have to check, but I think it might also be the "birth page" for some of those new characters in the bottom panel.
Awesome page and it's great that it's signed by the main creators!
Great page! Congrats on the pickup!
Cool page and that sketch is an extra added bonus!
Great cover! Gil Kane was still doing some amazing work late in his career!
Very nice page! I remember this mini-series was a big deal at the time and Paul Neary did some nice work here and on Captain America.
Wow -- that's a beautiful Legion page! Congrats!
Very cool! I remember seeing this for sale and I was hoping someone was going to restore it! Nice job!
Awesome action page even if there's not a ton of X-Men on there. I've really started to appreciate Dave's second run on the X-Men a lot more recently.
