Mike did a store appearance at a shop owned by one of my best friends. (used to be Super-Heroes Unlimited at the time, now its Villains in North Miami Beach - plug, plug) The appearance was during the Cosmic Odyssey mini, which is why I went with Metron.
This was the promotional artwork Mike did to advertise the upcoming (at the time) miniseries. It ended up running only a couple of times, and the art was cropped in half, only showing the arms up. A friend of Mike's (Kurt) owned the shop here in Florida I was buying from at the time. My best friend was trying to figure out my Christmas present, so he asked Kurt.. who called Mike. Mike sent him a handful of copies of art he'd just gotten back, and my buddy picked this one out for me.
Thanks, Gerry! I knew it had made an appearance or two, but I wasn't sure where!
Thanks! The sketch is from Miamicon April 1982. That year, the con had the dealers room in the downstairs ballroom, and the artists were put in a hotel room upstairs. The took out the beds, set up a couple of folding tables and chairs, and packed us in. Guests at that show were John Byrne, Bob McLeod, Mike Zeck, Don Martin, John Beatty, and a surprise visit by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. Yes, ALL in the one hotel room.
