I read at that early one he had to redraw pages a few times to distill the storytelling down and simplify. Not familiar with the artist but this is a terrific representation of one of the greatest films of all time (top five in my book, apologies to Sight & Sound magazine's recent top 100 greatest poll and to this director's Stalker and The Mirror lol). Thank you! Tarkovsky is amazing! Edward has done some really excellent work. His illustrated edition of The Shining from Folio Society is spectacular and you would probably also enjoy his Carnival of Souls cover for the Criterion Collection. |

I like how he enclosed that negative space in the middle of the piece with that one simple line...changes everything about the piece. As far as what this is from, Toppi did many portfolios. On many of the Toppi pieces I have owned and seen there is text on the back or at the bottom which is helpful in identifying where it came from. Also, there is an Italian gallery that represents his estate that have been very helpful in the past. Thank you so much, Jeff! That means a lot coming from someone with such an amazing collection. I appreciate the advice and will look into fiding the Italian Gallery that represents his estate. The only other marking on the piece are the number 57 with a slashed through T and what looks like either the number 14 or 16 on the back corner. |
