They are incredible. The simplicity and expression is so wonderful. Clearly a tip of the hat to Muñoz but still clearly McKean. I read at that early one he had to redraw pages a few times to distill the storytelling down and simplify. Especially when you think of how hatchy his other artwork was around this time like the Constantine issues.
Thank you! Tarkovsky is amazing! Edward has done some really excellent work. His illustrated edition of The Shining from Folio Society is spectacular and you would probably also enjoy his Carnival of Souls cover for the Criterion Collection.

The only other marking on the piece are the number 57 with a slashed through T and what looks like either the number 14 or 16 on the back corner.

Great piece by a great guy! My friends and I started a humor/arts magazine while we were in art school (think The Onion with illustrations) somehow Don found out about it and started doing work for us for free (none of us every made money doing it - just a labor of love) just because he enjoyed the magazine. It still amazes me to this day that I got to work with him.
I'm sure it's amazing in person. Not enough people know about this spectacular artist. It's a shame.
