This brought a smile to my face that simply won't go away.
Thanks for the wonderful insight. It really is a beautiful piece, and I was knocked out when it arrived. The background is so layered and organic, to see it in person, you can almost get lost in it. And the Matisse comparison is spot on. I see the similarities in forms, line and movement.
Thanks Retro. I've always loved this piece. Sure Hawkman isn't in costume... but the fully realized sequence is such fun. I'd love to see Simple Simon make a comeback in modern comics!
Your kind comment made me decide to make this piece available again if someone else would like to add it to their collection. If you know anyone in the market, please feel free to let them know.
Cheers!
Thanks Jeremy. Totally agree. I was hoping Moore would make it "his" and he did not disappoint.
Thanks George! It was the longest I ever waited for a commission, but in the end more than worth it!
This is a super fun piece. I have a Moldoff Flash page from '42. His art defined that era at DC.
I had nightmares about this shot as a kid. I might have a nightmare tonight now, because this is so dead on! Great piece. Very very cool!
This is a bold & powerful piece of a man who's life was tragically cut short. Great job Shelton.
An absolutely beautiful piece! I love Esteban’s work so much. A true master. Congrats on such an amazing acquisition!
Man... this page just made me tear up. I love this series so much. The border art is gorgeous! Congrats on picking up such a beautiful piece.
Great piece! I loved LEGION back in the day! I just posted a piece from my favorite issue. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1969411
This is so cool. I vividly remember reading this issue as a kid.
Gorgeous piece! I loved your & Ellis' run. I've read and reread my original copies so many times that they are barely holding onto their staples. It's great to see that the characters have continued to hold a spot in your heart.
I loved this book when I was a kid, it hit shelves just as I began collecting and found my first comic shop. The Sienkiewicz cover for issue 1 caught my eye, and I kept reading. I vividly remember reading this issue and loving it as a kid. Great to see the OA!
That would be a gorgeous Artist Edition! Man, I would buy that in a heartbeat!
I know! ;)
It hangs in a place that I pass by all day. It makes me happy to stop and look at.
Thanks! I was super happy to grab this page. This issue and it's revisionist history really inspired me to seek out stories outside of capes and superheroes. I was 13ish when it came out, and found myself discovering Gaiman, Alan Moore, but also the classics, Man in the Iron mask, Doyle, Dracula, Shelly, Wilde, etc. It was a gateway, because I wanted to know what it was based on, and once you fall down that rabbit you make many trips to the library. Lol.
I've loved this sequence since I was a kid! I was 10 when this was published. I was buying the toys and had just gone to the NYC Museum of Natural History for the first time. The JLA vs Dinosaurs... yes please!
Man, that is an actual GOAT Batman & Superman cover! Soooooooo cool.
This is amazing. I could look at it all day!
Great page! I'm a big fan of Baikie! I think I actually have a piece from this issue...
Man I love this piece and your run on the Authority.
Fantastic page of a classic villain. Congrats on owning such an amazing piece.
