Kevin,
Glad you enjoyed it. He is an amazing artist. Wish we had much more of his work available in print. I was thrilled to get this one.
Damon,
This is my favorite adaptation. Still surprised I was able to pick them up a few years back.
Damon,
Glad you enjoyed it. I think Hampton did a wonderful job on this story. The art matches the haunted yarn to perfection. Love his colors, which are much more vibrant in person.
Jeff,
Sorry for the monumental lag in responding. I was fascinated by his work when I first encountered it. I can see the reflections of the artists you mention, but he arrives at a ubpnique style all his own. Wish we had more of his work to see.
Julien,
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was unaware of his until a few years pack. His lines do reflect those from the Golden Age. Love his pieces.
Thomas,
Thanks. He has always been a favorite of mine. Just an amazing artist, who never seemed to have a line out of place. If you get the chance, pick up the book collecting his work.published in the thirties, it is full of pieces like this. He deserves much more attention. I am really thrilled to have seen this offered.
Marcus,
Rich had posted this on Facebook earlier. I thought it was beautifully done, but never thought to have it in my collection. When it was included in the sale, I was thrilled. This piece just perfectly captures the character, plus it is based on a reference photo of Dave himself.
Thanks,
there were a series of these included in the book. It would be interesting to see the others. This one captured the story and characters. Hard times.
Alex,
Thanks so much for your kind comments. The character, and his Pulp brethren, are huge favorites of mine. I wanted to try and capture some of that period wonder here. Coming from someone with your talent, it means a lot. I would love to see your rendition of the character. I still love my beautiful ERB commission you did for me.
Patrick,
It is a wonderful page. Thanks for your comment. I would have loved to see this, Golden Age, story released.
Mark,
I agree, sorry for the decades long delay in responding. Missed your initial comments for some reason.
Jeff,
Well, I'm a little late in replying to your kind comments. Just saw them when replying to a recent post. Thanks so much for your kind words. His work on this series deserves much more attention. Love the pages I was able to pick up those years back. Again, sorry for the decade plus lag.
Patrick,
Thanks for your kind words. I was fortunate to pick these up when they were offered. I loved Bolton's work on this series, and feel it does not get the recognition that it should. The initial book had very heavy and muddy coloring. This obscured the beautiful inkwork he rendered. It is a revelation to see one of the uncolored pieces. I miss seeing his work on a reglar basis. XMen, Kull, Marada, and this book are just amazing work. I'm glad you enjoyed my pages.
Patrick,
his work is so amazing. The details are so fantastic. It remained that way throughout his career. I still cannot believe I lucked into this piece, as I never thought to hold one of his works. Seek out his book, Drawing From History. It was released by the Book Palace a few years back. A huge sampling of his wonderful career. I'm glad to have been able to share with you guys. Good luck in your quest to add one to your collection. Nothing like them.
Rob,
Thanks for the kind comments. I first stumbled across his work a couple of decades back, and was immediately drawn to it. By all means look him up, and discover a trove of beautiful art. You won't be disappointed. I find the quality of his lines to be amazing. Each new piece I discover is a revelation. He loved to do central illustrations in graphite, surrounded by ink vignettes. Mostly, these were featured in the London Graphic. I think his brother, Ralph, is more remembered, but his work lacks the fluidity of Reginald. He deserves much more recognition in the art community. I would love, someday, to see a book focusing on his career. He was very prolific, working from the late 1800's till his passing in the 50's.
Marcus,
thanks for your comments. He was wonderful in capturing period settings, then contemporary, and detail. Always had wonderful characters throughout.
Marcus,
I agree. Very cinematic in approach by Zonjic. Great pacing. It just flows wonderfully.
Tony,
Thanks. I feel the same way each time I look at it.
Mark,
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I never tire of seeing his work.
Marcus,
The detail he put into his characters and settings is always amazing. Like looking at a living History exhbit.
Marcus,
Glad you liked it. I'm thrilled to have it. I know he was a student of the classic strip artists. It shows in the panels here. I finmd new bits each time I study it. Gone far too soon.
Mike,
Thanks for your welcome. Sorry I was so remiss in responding. Thanks for your compliment. Love his work.
Ray,
Well, I am a few years late in responding to your comment. Just ran across it when responding to Rob. My apologies. Yes, we do share many of the same interests. I love your gallery.
Rob,
Thanks. I know you share my love for Mark's art. I think you attended the same Wonderfest where I picked this up. He had so many wonderful pieces available. It was hard to select one, but this stood out. Still thrilled to have it in my small collection, which pales in comparison to yours.
Oral tradition is one of the great gifts of our society. It levels all who participate. No matter the background, or situation, of the one relating the story, the magic of that tradition can inspire and enchant. I can well imagine REH sitting at this feet of this acomplished storyteller and experiencing the tales she had collected.
George,
Thanks. I, too, love that series. Wish Maguire had been able to complete the series. Many wonderful pages throughout!
Marcus,
There is nothing new under the sun. So much History is cyclical. We just hope to hold on for the ride.
Rob,
Glad you enjoyed it. I, also, find his work very striking. Much underappreciated artist, who deserves more recognition.
Satya,
I love his work. Such a distinct style. He also has an Easton Press Grimms' Fairy Tales illustrated edition. From what I have seen, it is a beauty! Jason desreves much more recognition. I'm thrilled to have this piece in my small collection. Glad yoy enjoyed it.
Marcus,
It appears to have gotten serious very quickly! Love the dramatic setting.
Thomas,
Glad you enjoyed it. If memory serves, it was a couple of months to get it. I'm sure Mr. Steranko had many other creative irons in the fire at the time. Well worth waiting any amount of time for.
Marcus,
Whe the motorcar was still somewhat on a new thing. Each trip onto the streets was an adventure.
Marcus,
Glad you enjoyed it. It does give a really good window into his creative process. From the sketchbook pages I have run across, the man was just bursting with creative energy!
Duke,
Glad you enjoyed it. Those colors are very vivid in person, and do make the piece pop.
Jeff,
Thanks for the comment. I stumbled across this, and was taken by it. I can see the Caniff/Sickles influence, but he has a style all his own. So many classic creators out there who deserve more attention.
George,
I agree. I could sit down and study his work for many hours. Beautiful and distinctive.
Marcus,
I suppose that is one reason Ilove his work. He captures that amazing Pulp vitality, but in a style all his own. Beautiful stuff!
Daryl,
Glad you enjoyed it. He is, truly, a one of a kind creator. Hopefully, we will see more from him in the coming years.

Marcus,
I agree. It clearly shows the two sides of his personality. Masterfully done in a small illustration.
Joe,
Agreed. I will miss seeing new work by his talented hands. I am stll shocked by the news.
Marcus,
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was unfamiliar with his work till recently. He does capture character and setting nicely.
Duke,
Thanks. I love his style. So distinct. I guess some apprehinsions are timeless.
Rob,
Glad you enjoyed it. I was thrilled to add it to my small collection. Greatly enjoyed the Bull pieces from your collection. I have added a higher resolution scan as an attachment. Hope you enjoy.
Marcus,
Books certainly provided grand tours for many an armchair adventurer. That would include me also!
