Superman Issue 377 Page 9 Owner: John C Comment posted on 9/5/2025 So this was one of those John Severin unused Marvel inventory Two-Gun Kid issues that Curt Swan redrew and cut apart into a DC Superman issue. In an alternate dimension that is. PS - Tobias Manning was the worst footballer in the family until Arch played Ohio State. We'll have to wait and see if he rebounds. |

As much as he may be procrastinating sometimes changing things up (location, activity, what have you...) does clear the mind to be able to focus. If I had Tippie tagging along with me everywhere that would def be tough though! Love this set of 6 strips, fun budget art and reflective of the times of 80+ years ago. congrats! ![]() Yep, these were fun to read and to research. And the price was right when splitting the cost out to just $28 each! |

A nickel for 5 all day suckers!? I was born in the wrong era. ![]() "Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh, yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones... " -- Grampa Simpson [I'm sure he'd have gotten around to the suckers eventually!] |

This is an excellent example, not only of lovely and incredibly affordable art, but also of a potential "subset" that people can collect: Dogs! ![]() One of the checkboxes for narrowing down my strip art purchases, and maybe some future panel page squirrels. Not as many doggish aliens in Star Wars though. That role usually goes to droids. |

Awesome work, Jeff! That's something I also have always loved doing whenever I bought a strip that had the copyright sticker missing and I didn't know the year. The detective work adds a sense of fun to collecting older strip art. Though I have to also admit, it can also be a LOT more time consuming that this one was for you, especially if you can't help falling down the rabbit hole! ![]() Yeah, having a few day/date combos is a huge lead to start with. For those who are looking for aids, Seattle Pacific University was a help for my initial narrowing down of 1958 and 1964 as possibilities with their chart for 1950-2060 (https://spu.edu/ddowning/percal.htm). Folks can also query www.timeanddate.com in their options for similar searches to narrow down a year with a certain day/date combo. |

I remember waiting for Dark Empire to come out at my local comic shop like it was yesterday... and boy did it not disappoint, still one of my favourite series to this day. ![]() It was certainly a key in ressurecting the franchise in the 1990s, and set Dark Horse in a strong position to hold that license for the next 20 years. |
