Back in the early days of Negation, Paul would say that one of his least favorite things to draw was sci-fi machinery. But you'd never know it by how awesome he made it look. This page is a good example of that!
Yep, that was me. Jim inked all of the faces, though, if I remember correctly.
Thank you, Alex. I remember the amount of effort that went into planning the first story arc, only to have it end so soon. I think Arnie's artwork elevated issue 1 far above our abilities as writers, though. So who knows if the next few issues would have come across as the grand epic we envisioned? I'm still happy the first one saw print - it was a great learning experience in all sorts of ways.
Hey, Phil, that is a really nice page! A lot of times the greyness comes from erasing the pencils and picking up some of the ink at the same time. I mix a bunch of different inks together to get a dark black to try to prevent that. And Jim uses a soft lead, so that helps.
Thanks, Kevin - and Jim works on some of the best titles featuring the best characters, so getting to inks his pages once in a while is a treat.
Yes, blueline inked pages are a completely separate page from the original pencil page. The inks are done over a light blue copy of the pencils that the inker prints onto an art board.
Thanks again for the chance to ink this. Paul's artwork is always a lot of fun for anyone to ink. He's one of the best!
