Paul Ryan is a fantastic artist. His love of the Phantom character shines forth like the torch in this scene. The Phantom, the first costumed hero of the comics is still cool after all these years.
I agree, Bombastic Bruce's talent shines anew like a dazzling highlight reflected throuh time and space from the long-lost glories of the sterling Silver Age. I can't tell you how much fun I'm having collecting thsee tributes -- i can't stop myself from commissioning them. The always lurking Obsessed Collecting Demon has been roused.
Lars, don't be sorry, Bill Everett's inks were tops. However The Jack Kirby Checklist Gold Edition credits Frank Giacoia and Bill Everett. while the ol' GCD credits Frank Giacoia and John Verpoorten. When I look at Thor's right hand, I think it does look like Bill Everett inks. Sometimes there is no "right" answer. It seems Frank Giacoia who was a notorious procrastinator may have gotten some help from his ink-slinging pals. Other experts, feel free to chime in. In any case, it's another blockbuster re-creation by Bombastic Bruce.
Another awesome re-creation by Bombastic Bruce. Jim Steranko's Nick Fury had me totally jazzed as a kid. I love this stuff. I call these splandid re-creations my "comic art duck decoys" because while they are not the real thing, they look authentic enough that I still experience an "art rush" when I look at them. Yeah, boy. Plus, now I can still afford to eat, although last week when i bought some boxes of "healthy" cereal and a few dairy products, it cost me $50 even. Yow, hyper-inflation!
I always loved this Steve Ditko cover with Spider-Man cowering in abject fear -- Bruce nailed it. A superb re-creation.
It's hard to beat the Jack Kirby- John Romita Sr. work. I know its a bit of a waste for Marvel's art output, but I sure love John Romita Sr.'s handsome inks on anyone. Bruce caught the vibe very well, as usual. Kudos to him.
Bruce would have made a great Kirby Marvel inker back in the day. He does exceptional work, IMHO. Maybe we should have him re-ink all those dashed-out Kirby pages from the early sixties for a reprint, I don't want to name any names, but some of those workhorse Marvel inkers were a bit heavyhanded at times.
Awesome, a fantastic piece!
Another great page by Frenz and Sinnott.
A top-notch re-creation. Congrats!
Beautiful. Joe Sinnot's pencils are as crisp and streamlined as his inks. A real joy to see.
Another winner from the House of Ideas!
A classic Kanigher/Andru/Esposito cover recreated by Cooke -- very cool.
A perfect blend of the Kirby and Moebius Galactus concepts -- only Comolo could do something like this and have his own personality shine through as well! Bravo!
Once again, Comolo sense of scale and command of detail are equal to those of the masters -- Kirby, Moebius, and Giger.
Comolo's prelims are every bit as nice as his finishes! It's always a treat to see them.
Monsters and heroes -- the revolutionary Marvel Age formula. Wonderful!
This awesome Kirby concept was made even more so by Comolo -- I love his sense of sublime scale!
A beauty Rob. Great stuff all around. Don Mangus
