Hi Tim, Yes it's watercolor, You can tell Chris loves painting nature from the care he takes in painting it.
In fact, here is a link to Chris doing a little painting on it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev5aEJ8yw9o&t=397s
Wonderful addition to a fanastic collection! Thanks also for including the other pictures!
We're glad you like it! We were happy to share a few pieces from our collection in the Rockwell exhibit so more people could enjoy seeing the original art. Some pieces you really have to see in person. We also really enjoyed seeing all the artwork in the Rockwell exhibition and actually saw it twice.
That's a really cool drawing! Great mix of good girl art and mad scientist pulp theme! Wonderful addition to your incredible collection.
Such a wonderfully drawn and designed cover by one of the truly greats in the business! This is one of the few comics I have a distinct recollection of seeing for the first time at the newsstand.
Saw this in person at IlluxCon this year. It's a very atmospheric and magical piece! Beautiful work!
Yes, this is from the Frank Collection. Several other collectors mentioned to us that they somehow missed this when she was downsizing her collection and we were lucky enough to get it.
Glad you like it! That's a really interesting question. He handled the body really well. The sword is complete and extends down along his back. His back ends slightly before the end of the sword; the sword is about 35" from end to end, The sides of the chest curve around so you can see the beginnings of his ribs. From a side view, the bottom edge of his body in silhouette curves gently from his sternum up to where his back ends. From a top view the end of his back has an oval curve.
Funny you mentioned similarity to Eyvind Earle. My wife and I discussed the same thing. I think it's the structure and layered look that brings Earle's work to mind.
Wonderful piece!! I remember seeing this at IlluxCon and wondered who the lucky person was who got this.
