I really, really, really love this piece and could look at it all day! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! That one was a lot of work, had a ton of un-erased pencils on it. But I love those Batgirl figures! I've got a Novick/Giordano Batman page coming up next.
Thanks! This was a fun one to work on, a favorite cover and a beloved story!
Maybe I'll color this (digitally) soon for fun. Had this page since the mid-1990s.
Wonderful and inspiring, like all of Cho's work!
Looks like a fun piece to ink!
That's basically why I bought this page over 30 years ago... for a total of $50!
I met Dick Giordano in the late 1990s when I showed him my inking and had him sign this page. He was incredibly gracious and very complimentary. Like many, I was sad when we lost him.
Agreed, a large part of why I bought this page (about 30 years ago)!
Gotta love vintage Tom Palmer inks over Colan, or really over any pencils.
I scanned the page from the original art and removed dust and scratches and restored any missing blacks or age and handling-related dropouts or minor wear. Like what "restoration artists" do when producing the Marvel Masterworks or DC Archives series, etc. In fact, I did this (and other) pages as sort of a tryout to be hired as a restoration artist for Marvel.
Thanks! Much appreciated. There are plenty more in my gallery, plus some with digital colors over the inks.
Thanks, much appreciated! Here's a version with digital color under the inks. Hope you like this one too, it was fun coloring it. I'll be posting a few more over the holidays as I finish them up.
Thanks, there's a better scan and the linework digitally restored and colored here:

I bought this piece in the late-1990s from a well-known collector who had just purchased all the BWS pages from FF 296 and said something like, "I don't need a big picture of the Thing in a raincoat!" I thought, "are you kidding me? This is a masterpiece of inking" and I happy snapped it up.
Thanks, Josh! I had a lot of fun coloring this one, glad you like it. How's everything going lately? Shoot me an email whenever you get a chance so we can catch up.
All 6 pages are wonderful but this one may be unsurpassed in mood. Jones' genius just oozes off the page.
What an incredible piece of work! It should forever be treasured.
Agreed! It's a masterpiece of inking and I'm happy to have owned this for over 25 years. There's a higher quality scan in my "Original Art Restored and Digitally Colored" folder. I restored it from a 1200 dpi scan and colored it based on the original 1980s Marvel palette and a printed copy of the book. If you love "This Man...This Monster!" as much as I do, you'll find my inked version in my "Classic Comic Art Recreations" folder. Inked by hand with a Hunt 102 nib, Rapidograph pens, and thousands of tiny dots.
That's my own little touch, but still kind of Kirby-tech inspired.
Thanks! Different size dots and combinations impart different textures: wool, metal, rocky, etc. Experimented a lot with that over the years.
Agreed, it had everything I was looking for in a Kirby/Sinnott FF page. Still excited to have it after 25+ years.
Thanks! Great pacing and wonderful inking by two of the all-time greats!
At full size, the line work and background textures are just amazing!
Thanks, I really love this piece! (I had been out of comics for a few years when I discovered the Marvels series in 1994-- it affected me so much that I jumped head first back into the deep end!)
An absolute masterpiece! Truly stunning! Thank for posting and letting us all see this.
Great page and this whole book is stunning and an inspired piece of work. An all-time favorite!
Wow, so amazing, both in execution and historical significance!
