oh, I don't think I've seen a costume redesign I've liked in over a decade : )

I could live with the black skirt costume, because she still looked kind of like herself. That weird pony tail look was just weird. All of this was out of character for Mary anyhow, but I'm sympathetic to writers needing change for a story. I just don't know what they gained with all this, except for making Black Adam more visible in the DCU. I've said it before, elsewhere, but there's been pressure to force changes on the Marvel Family for a long time. Let's face it-- good stories need conflict, no doubt, but so many writers seem to salivate over forcing innocent characters into horrific situations. There are so few untarneshed young heroes, and I say let the Marvel Family stay optimistic, and true to their natures. It's one thing to have Superman say Golly, and all that, but it is a natural part of the humor inherent in Shazam. Gotta say, Kevin-- I hated that twisted Barbie look on Mary Marvel! DC forced that change, as a way to help "support" Final Crisis, even though the damned timeline didn't work for it. If you look on my blog, you can see some of the layouts for JSA#24 where I drew Mary in the black miniskirt, and they had me change it to the weirder look after the book was inked. Best,JER

Thanks for the issue number. Do you recall is the back cover had the All Star Squadron lodo like this art? Just curious if I had scanned the zerox for Roy or this art? The zerox wouldn't have had any copy on it. Best,JER

Hey all, thanks for the comments on this. I remember busting my butt on this, because I wanted to make a good showing in the DC Spotlight book. Funny thing is, most of the promo pieces in the book wound up being clip art from various comics. I'm thinking Roy may have used this in Alter Ego, but overall, it is a somewhat obscure piece from the All Star Squadron days. Hope they include it if they ever reprint those comics in trade form.

Hey Mike, I wanted to correct your credit on this piece-- I pencilled and inked it, originally as a pin-up for Roy for All Star Squadron. I was supposed to recreate an old JSA illo, but the original had a big copy block that covered much of the original, so I drew the full scene, so Roy didn't use it at the time. He then used it later, as a page in this story. Bill Collins had no part in this image. Best, Jer

~Yes~! Now that's what Infinity Inc. looks like : )

Thanks! I wrote that story with Atom Smasher, with the idea of doing that splash page, just to get this version back in print, at least for a single page:) Jer
