Wow - that is a -great transformation page!  Panel 5 is hardcore - love it!  Shots like that were very striking and effective when I was a kid, as I loved all the heroes and was always shocked when I saw something like this and realized the sword's edge that some of these characters ride or die on.  The curses can hurt!  But thanks to Perlin, they sure look fantastic.  Really nice layout to make the most of the space on that page; the first three panels stack beautifully (and reversing out the black musical notes to white keeps our focus on Johnny and the panel from being too crowded and indecipherable) and then the bottom row takes you home.  An excellent way to cross a big want off your list... I just hope you didn't make a deal with a man in black and trade away anything... "extra special" for it...? :) Big congrats, K!  Fantastic!

Curses can hurt...but...still worth it?!?1  And was my trade...worth it?!  Time tell ;)

Thanks for the add, Jason!  Always like hearing what you see in the art that I often don't!

Just as with Spider-man, I've lost count of how many Ghost Riders there are now.  But for me, Johnny Blaze will always be the one and only GR.  Congrats on snagging an actual transformation.  Very, very, cool.

I hear ya.  As a kid of the '80s and teen of the '90s my real intro was more the Danny Ketch GR, when Marvel was releasing tons of #1 new issues in the early '90s.  But...I found JB later and LOVED his original look and flava, nay, fire (pun!) and do to this day.

Thanks, E DLS, and all, for the comments!

I agree - Uko doin' that rendering thing :)

I also love when looking at OA how we're "not sure why" but we still feel and see it.  That's part of the magic of it all.

Thanks for the add, Eric!

I didn't own any of the toys either but back when I was able to get some of those children's books and coloring books.  The former was my intro if I remember right and you made me go look for it  - found it right here!

Wow!  This one takes me BACK!  Really lovely work by Matt here - deep, rich colors and really solid ink work (especially the bottom half here, where the harness transitions into the caps / wrap - love all the crinkley lines)! The shade of orange / red Matt used for the helmet / horn around Venger's face is fantastic, too.  This piece is as bright and bold as the memories of Saturday morning cartoons as a kid, and I bet Matt enjoyed drawing it just as much!  Great piece, K - congrats!

Ha ha, was hoping it'd take folks "BACK!" like it does for me :)  And yes, those crinkley lines...Matt's so good at rendering that stuff.  Ca-razy detailing.  And you called it - he told me he absolutely had fun doing this one!

WOW - An absolutely BLISTERING rendition of Kaine: I have -never- seen him look so good; fearsome, ferocious, and very creepy.  That grey background allows everything to pop out -so- effectively, and once he has your attention, Colton doesn't squander it: from the fine webbing to the wonderful lighting effects on the tentacles (love the shadow on Kaine's right leg!), to the wonderful costume touches (just as you say, the boot heels are fantastic, but I love how the hands and gloves are captured here, too), everything is worthy (and rewarding) of close study.  Superb.  The fact that it looks like this dude is completely encased in hard rubber or leather adds to the creepy factor, too.  So good - Colton flat-out killed this one!  (It must look insane at 16x20, too. :) )  Sensational pick up, K!  HUGE congrats!.

Thanks for all the great observations, as per usual, Jason!  Always dig how you see things I don't in these pieces.  Love the comment about being "encased"...totally see that and it does add a darker kinda vibe.

This piece was also actually used for the CAF Update 282 preview image!  Kinda cool in that the bottom half was cropped to fit into the rectangular space and his body arm positioning works perfect covering said space including the lettering :)

Thanks again for the add!

I think it's a tie between Clancy Brown and J.K. Simmons for most versatile actor working today. Simmons got his Academy Award for "Whiplash."  Brown got robbed of even an Oscar nomination for "Highlander."  Hopefully Brown can take some solace in that McKone did this awesome depiction of him.
