I did think the head might be the Joker but he wouldn't really fit in picture of heroes. It might be him though. I looked up the Lambiek article and it was pretty good.
Hello, I just saw your question. The eBay seller that I bought this one from 6-7 years ago had it listed as being drawn by Asbury. The page has MA written in the bottom left but that might have been from a seller. This is from 1981 and looking at the issue online most of the other stories have artist signatures but not this one. Some of the UK comics websites that I used to get info from seem to have disappeared so I don't think can guarantee the artist. Thanks for the heads up on the other page from the story but I'm trying to avoid buying from overseas currently.
I liked the Waterloo Bridge reference.
Of course, knowing that it's a Losers story, probably one or both of the lovers will not make it to the end of the story alive.
"Abstract" was the word that I couldn't remember when I was writing the description.
Bizarro World was a humor book made by indie/underground artists. DC put out a deluxe edition combining both books a few years ago. This story was in the second book. Lots of good stuff. I don't really remember what happened in the story. I guess I'll have to try and find my copy.
I don't think he has but I thought I'd seen somewhere that he liked the character so when I put in my request I gave some choices and included Plas.
True. Plus,he also did some issues of the animated Brave & the Bold comic but he'd already sold those pages.
I do have a bad b&w scan of the pencils in my Tony Dezuniga gallery.
That's cool to know. I think it works better with the wings added later since that makes the web pattern on the wings match the background.
Munro was very nice. I even got a photo with her. I watched some Youtube walkthru videos on WonderFest last year and that put me in the mood to go again. I'm low on funds myself but I would like to go look at all the great models again in the future.
That's a great piece of art from a great con. I went to that show to try and get some art from Schultz but all he had were signed prints. I did get a William Stout drawing and Munro's autograph. I'd like to go to Wonderfest again someday just to look at all the models.
I doubt I'd have commissioned this cover but I'm awfully glad to have picked it up since it exists. Of course, I'm only too happy to buy his weird or esoteric recreations.
No idea but I think she is the woman(hairdresser?) on the cover of WW #190.
Joel's is definitely a legendary collection which I'm happy to have purchased a few sketches from.
It wouldn't surprise me if Fabry had done more cover art than interior pages.
And a very Merry Christmas to you, Lee.
I've been saving these pages just so I could post them at Christmas time.
Going by GCD, Everett had the story idea and inked the Sub-Mariner heads so you might have a little Everett inking on the page.
Thanks!! I was probably at the right place at the right time when I bought most of it but I still pick up a few pieces like this one occasionally.
They probably kept him busy for a while. I think there were 50-60 of them if not more. All the Legion, the Subs, villains, and some side characters.
I think you are correct. I think that the sketches in the set that I bought were from around 1996.
I believe that I got mine last week. It was shown on the first or second preview show and arrived not long after that. I hope you get yours soon!!!
I think it's very unlikely to get a free sketch by mail these days. Many professionals don't even have time to autograph books if you send them. But back in the 80's or 90's, it probably would have been possible.
Us Tennessee collectors have to stick together :)
It looks great!!! I have two Green Lantern recreations, one bright and one a little faded. I was told that the bright one was done in watercolors. The slightly faded one makes me think that Hasen might have done some of the black with markers.
Hopefully, there are some complete sketchbooks sitting in somebody's collection.
I don't know about best pickup but it's great and was very affordable. From what I was told, she priced art to sell which I wish more artists did on these shows.
Thanks!!! I think I got lucky to win the auction for this great art.
That was a good show. I wanted to buy some of his art but I've been spending too much lately.
I think you might be correct. In the one picture I found of the published version, the cover blurb is "The Future of Humanity: What Will Our World Look Like in 2025?" That sounds more geared to science than comics.
I actually traded this one away and then managed to buy it back later.
I got on the Mannion train early back in the early 2000s. I even managed to get a few commissions. I haven't had much luck for a while but I still bid on some of his auctions.
That makes me wonder how influential Mad Magazine was overseas. Mad's only about 10 years older than Captain Hurricane.
This is an early one but he just got better and better. Sadly, I never had any luck winning any of his auctions. Tom was probably my favorite of the eBay pinup artists but Dave Hoover and Andy Price were also doing good work.
Definitely a bit of a women's lib angle which I forgot to mention in my rambling description. I think Estrada also did some WW comics back in the 70s.
I'm usually willing to pay more if buying from the artist but I think I'm just still annoyed at Heritage for moving the art auction from Sunday to Wednesday years ago :)
Best of luck. I hope you get one too. He did say at the con that he would be doing more conventions when his next project with Matt Wagner comes out.
Definitely a great price for Ploog but some other art that I'd be willing to pay $10-30 for, I avoid because I don't want to pay $50-70 for it.
Thanks!! You did get a great commission. I'll post mine eventually. I was originally just going to get one Batman sketch but by the end of the show I really did want this one too. I spent way more than I should have at the show.
I think Batman is reaching out to tell you that Jones will be coming to a convention near you in the forseeable future!!! Well, hopefully, he will.
Thanks!! I got lucky and purchased this one 15-20 years ago from Joe Pruett when he was Bolland's art rep and he had a few pages at a local show. Bolland had already gone digital so I was at the right place at the right time. All that was available were 2 pages from Camelot 3000 and a complete story from Mystery in Space. I was pushing it to afford one Camelot page.
Mostly knowing Baikie as an Alan Moore collaborator on Skizz and Vigilante along with his work on Electric Warrior for DC, it was strange to find out that he had been drawing TV comics in Britain like Fall Guy, Charlie's Angels, and CHiPs.
