Great images and an interesting observation I find is that the inking on Jimmy's head in the 1st panel and Superman's body in the 3rd panel looks a lot like Murphy Anderson's work. A really nicely designed cover. Laying out the buildings at the precise angle that allows the lit area to form a lightning bolt was a genius move! So who do you like more, Matthew, Superman or Captain Marvel?

People watching" is always a fun activity in a Matt Wagner piece, and I love that we get to meet a number of Metropolis denizens (as well as the city itself) as we follow Clark Kent gamely "trying" to catch a train (which he cops to deliberately missing "at least three times a week") on his way to work.  He's just "more powerful" than the locomotive, not as timely as one, apparently. :)

Add to that how in three of the first four panels he appears in (on pages 2 and 3), he's pointing "up, up and away"... as he's running to catch the train (even as it pulls out of the station), and you have a charmingly hilarious and awesome opening sequence to this series.  Great pick up, Matthew!  Congrats!

Rodier certainly understands the importance of line weights. His inks are fabulous and this page is lovely. I don't recall Lori Lemaris ever being a flame of Clark's. Was the pre or post Crisis?

Ivan's work is sublime. He manages to squeeze so much into each page and make it look easy and effortless, like the endless ballet between good and evil in our four colored fan pages. I do have a question, it seems from these pictures that there are two covers, pencils and inks on separate boards, is that the case? or is something else going on here? In any event, congratulations on a Super acquisition (or two) :)

The heart shaped word balloons are really unique.  Another big event moment that they had in their back pocket, this was a celebration of the creators, characters, and history of Superman!  Gamill paired up with a legend, Murphy Anderson!
