Description

The "Day of the Samurai" episode (airdate: February 23, 1993) was written by Steve Perry and directed by Bruce Timm. Bruce Wayne returns to Japan when Kyodai Ken kidnaps Kairi, a young student of Sensei Yuri. Kairi is pushed off a building and Batman dives after her. As I watched the BluRay, I found a nearly matching frame. However, several details are off. Kairi’s hair flowing to the left rather than right. The feet and legs are turned differently. These suggest this might be a rejected drawing. In Back Issue #99, John Trumbull says the animation was done by Blue Pencil, S.I., and Jade Animation. I'm thrilled to have this dramatic animation drawing. I also have the Mike Parobeck Batman and the Ninja pencils for a Little Golden Book page depicting this same scene.
