Description2nd of 2 Web of Spidey posts tonight and also the 2nd of 2 that I recently picked up from Mike Burkey. Needless to say...this is a big one. Kind of can’t believe I’m writing this as I do it. HUGE collector goal checked off for me – a page from the seminal Kraven’s Last Hunt (KLH) by the MAN, Mr. Mike Zeck! Who was also the designer of Spidey's black costume!An absolute favorite artist of mine due to the impact his work had on me as a kid. I flipped through my beat up KLH and Secret Wars books all the time and when I started collecting art many years later I never really thought I’d ever pick up a page from either of those series. Yet, here it is! I met Mike a few years back and picked up a Kraven bust shot and after talking with him (and yes, geeking out a bit) and finding out what a nice guy he was I really made it a point to pick up a page. Let’s get to the art. This scene is shortly after Spidey has just busted out of the coffin Kraven left him in and he’s not too happy after realizing it was for 2 weeks. Got Spidey in 6 of 8 panels and I love those last 2 images with the large white back spider in panel 6 and Spidey getting ready to pounce in panel 8. Yep, these guys are in trouble. Zeck kills it but let's not forget the equally killer contribution of inker Bob McLeod! Lastly, I got to chat with Mike again at the recent Dallas Fan Expo and brought this page along. He signed it for me along the lower left and took a pic with me with us both holding it. Capped this whole thing off nicely. Thanks, Mikes - Zeck and Burkey! Update 6/25/17: New image! Got Bob McLeod to sign in the lower right margin at last week's Heroes Con! Since I now have both arteests' sigs, on to the framer! Social/Sharing |

One of the very few times they dare show Spider-Man as a predator.

As far as I'm concerned this hobby, and this site, is at it's best when collectors acquire pieces that elicit such strong emotional responses that their descriptions have not choice but to radiate they joy they're feeling. That's all part of the fun of CAF to me. Congrats on adding this prime example from such a historic Spider-Man tale. Truly one of the greatest.

I enjoy it, and I think benefits me just as much as the viewers! I know I like reading descriptions on others' pieces so I'm glad to know some like reading mine as well. Thanks again, all, for your comments!

Still one of my favorite pieces and, to your point, I'd say is one of the best pages from the arc...though there are SO many best pages :) Just glad I got this one. It's framed now, too, so I gets to look at it a lot! Thanks, Bill!

When I think of Mike Zeck's work, during the 1980s,
three classic storylines come to mind, standing the test of time;
1) "The Punisher" mini-series
2) "Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars"
3) "Kraven's Last Hunt" (*not specifically in this order*)
And here you have a beautiful page out of the big three. Amazing shots
of Spider-Man, along with Kraven's men, getting a little too over-
comfident on Spidey's physical condition. Truly; one of the greatest
Spider-Man tales ever told. Thanks for sharing the greatness.. ;)

Thanks for the great comments, Daniel! I agree as far as those top 3, and I'd throw in some of his Cap work, too :) I'm still hoping to get a Secret Wars and Punisher page but in no rush at all as I'm still VERY happy with this page as my Zeck example. This arc is one of the reasons I consider him one of my top 3 fave artists so it's definitely one of the crown jewels of the collection! It is framed and on the wall now so I get to look at it a lot :). Thanks, again!

Hey Alfredo! Yeah, you've commented before but I appreciate you commenting again...and you're more than welcome too in the future ;) Definitely still one of my absolute favorite pieces...framed onthe wall right next to my desk so I get to look at it all the time. Thanks again - I KNOW you appreciate it, being as big a fan of this storyline, Kraven, AND Zeck as you are. Not hard to tell from all of the great pieces featuring said storyline/character/artist in your gallery!
