DescriptionCheck out this very rare cover which was penciled and inked by the great John Romita Sr back in 1969! The top part of this cover which includes the First Appearance of The Kangaroo and everything above it is a stat made from the original published artwork for this cover. The entire Spiderman image is all original art with everything from his body and below, including the cars and sidewalks below his body all drawn artwork! This WAS to be the original cover to Amazing Spiderman #81 but Stan Lee decided he wanted the FRONT of Spiderman to be shown leaping over the cars, so John Romita drew another bottom half for this cover, including a new Spiderman image and THAT was what was used for the published cover. This art is also signed by the great John Romita at the bottom, and you can also see a nice picture of John Romita Sr. holding this cover in the red link above! It fascinates me how from growing up in the 1970s as a kid with little money, I had to work on my paper route to have funds to buy all of the comics I loved as a kid. And growing older I was able to buy more expensive comics as I saved my money while in the U.S. Army at West Point from 1985-1989 and I was able to finally buy my very first pages of comic art in 1989 and it has been an unbelievable roller coaster ride ever since that point trying to find the Amazing Spiderman #1-297 pages and Spiderman strip art from 1-3-1977 to 11-9-1980 I love so dearly and covet!! |
