Greetings to all my fellow original comic art collectors. I started collecting original comic art in 1975...with my first purchase of three pages from Adventure Comics #495 by Kurt Schaffenberger which featured Supergirl. After that, I was definitely hooked! Eventually, over the years...my taste in art evolved tremendously...collecting comic art by such artists as Wrightson, Adams, Infantino, Rogers, Kaluta, Swan, Boring, Shuster, Anderson, Kubert, Ditko, Romita, Kirby, Steranko, and Frazetta...just to name a few. However, by 1993, I was ready to go into business for myself with a comic book/game shop. To raise the capital needed for my venture, I decided to sell a majoirty of my collection in the Sotheby's auction. Within the next few years, I completely stopped acquiring art and pretty much sold the remainder of my collection. It wasn't until about eiight years later in 2005, that I broke down and bought a page from World's Finest #50 at the San Diego convention. After that...I was hooked again! However, this time around, I found it to be a whole lot harder to find art for the cheaper prices I was once accustomed to...and not to mention, there was a whole lot more competition for certain pieces. To compensate for the higher prices, I also focused on comic strip art so I could get a whole lot more bang for my buck. Therefore, I became interested in incredibly talented comic strip artists like Frank Godwin, V.T. Hamlin, Alden McWilliams, Alex Raymond, Reynold Brown, Jose Salinas, and others. But mainly, I found myself collecting art that I liked...and not what I thought other people would like. If the art escalates in value, I figure that's an added bonus...but that usually doesn't affect my decision on what art to acquire. Basically, I do it for the pure enjoyment...and for no other reason.
