R.I.P. Bernie Wrightson - Master of the Macabre, unique and inspiring illustrator, and true gentleman.
His work alone is a stunning and beautiful legacy which will be admired forever. Anyone who had the honour and pleasure of meeting him or knowing him feels the loss far more sharply, as Bernie was a marvellous, kind and generous human being.
Bernie was, and remains, a true one-off.
We miss you, Bernie. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
And this year we lost George Perez! What an inspiration - not only an incredible artist, who could draw a crowd like no other, and was key in defining and refining SO many iconic comics characters from the 1970s through to present day - but also a consummate gentleman, who treated his fans with great respect and had so many wonderful stories about his wife, whom he clearly loved dearly and treated like his Queen. What a guy!
And Neal Adams. Man oh man! The guy who gave us Deadman, the definitive Batman of the late 60s and 70s, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, some of the finest renditions of the X-Men & Avengers a fan could ever hope for, and fought tooth and nail for creator rights in our beloved medium.
You all live on in our hearts and minds, every time we turn a page, admire your work, remember your incredible lives. What a privilege it is to share your collective light.
