Description"It feels like Byrne and Layton had a blast drawing it, because Ant-Man’s powers are drawn with a sense of life, creativity, and invention. ... – but nothing beats the iconic shot of Lang shrinking down for the first time. It’s kinetic, packed with intricate motion that seems to burst off the page."http://www.blastoffcomics.com/2015/06/scott-langs-first-hurrah-reading-marvel-premiere-47/ "John Byrne handles the pencils adeptly, constructing them within highly kinetic layouts (...). Bob Layton comes through as one of Byrne's most compatible inkers, adding panache as well as definition." http://pencilink.blogspot.de/2008/12/marvel-premiere-47-john-byrne-art.html "There are some terrific artistic touches in this first part of the two-part tale. Layton was probably second only to Terry Austin in terms of meshing with Byrne's still Neal Adams-esque style in those days (although rumour at the time had it Byrne disliked Layton's inks), and the shots of Ant-Man's gleaming helmet or the Zip-A-Toned helmets on the CTE thugs gave the art a real shine that came through even on the crappy paper the books were printed on. Byrne has some fun with the angles, as any clever artist working with a shrinking hero always does..." http://www.comicbookgalaxy.com/commentary_081104.html The 1st appearance of the 'new style' Ant-Man from 1979 has found its way into my collection. I'm eagerly waiting for the Ant-Man movie with a story line from Marvel Premiere #47! Dan, thank you for parting this page of prime Byrne & Layton art! Social/Sharing |

Great page! Atleast didn't name the new Antman Steve Martin! " Let's Get Small!" As his catch phrase or battle cry! LOL Byrne was the top gun at Marvel in the late 70's/early 80's.

As the owner of the page previous to this one, it is hard to believe that I have never commented on this page. Layton's inks were impressive on this two issue story arc for bringing Scott Lang into prominence as a new Ant Man.

Iconic Ant-Man page by John Byrne and Bob Layton! Wow--The first appearance of Scott Lang as Ant-Man. Love that third panel with the transformation happening. And you gotta love that fourth panel where Scott finds himself smack in the middle of a herd of ants is priceless! The scenes with Scott and what seem like enormous ants are beautifully drawn by Byrne. And Layton's inks--with cool screen tones--seem perfect! Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
