DescriptionAmidst the Covid-19 pandemic (with no foreseeable end in sight), we are truly in dark times, embroiled willy nilly in a war which we never consciously entered into and against a deadly enemy we cannot even see. Under these circumstances, most things have lost their lustre (including this hobby). The silver lining is that, with more time for personal reflection, many of us have gained a better perspective on things in general and (most importantly) our lives in particular. Above all, relationships are the most important. There is also a reminder during this time to be grateful for the people as well as the things we have been blessed with. And so, counting my blessings in relation to OA, I dug into my collection and was reminded of the very first time I managed to obtain a page from a first issue from Marvel comics. It was a page from Daredevil #1. There was no hero in costume but cost a fortune all the same. Some years later, I was fortunate enough to obtain a second page from this seminal issue, this time with DD in costume and it has been displayed in my CAF Gallery for some years now. However, looking at this particular page, it, too, has significance. It is about life. It also contains the "origin" of Daredevil. The cruel taunts ironically become the inspiration for our hero's name. And there has been no looking back ever since.Wishing everyone good health and safety. Social/Sharing |

First to comment on this classic page - I'd congratulate myself but I'm not the one that was smart enough to snap this up way back when!

While this older page acquisition to your collection is most awesome, what compelled me to post is your narrative - Well written in these times of great adversity and uncertainty. Collecting comic art is a passion for many, a habit for several, but where are the passion and the habit if you are not alive to experience it?

Awesome page, and even better perspective. Thank you for both, and stay safe.

Phenomenal page! I love pages like this one that go into the personal stories of our favorite heroes! This page offers such fantastic insight into Matt Murdock' frustrations and motivations growing up. In many ways, I love pages like this one even more than pages where he's wearing his costume and battling bad guys! Thanks for sharing!

One of the most important debut comic issues to see the light of day. Bill Everett is a master class artist and we are left open mouth speechless by delights such as this page. Nobody draws like this man. A+.

Many thanks, Michael! Bill Everett was a wonderful artist indeed. I was so very fortunate to also obtain another page from this book as well (with Daredevil in costume) - they are truly the centerpieces of my collection. On another note, many congratulations on a truly splended CAF Gallery.

First of all, it's a beautiful page and a collector's dream. Second of all, the bottom two panels just scream, "I'll gamble a stamp!"
