DescriptionIn recent years when Alan comes to the US cons he brings along a few pre-drawn commissions which are usually snapped up in the first few minutes that he arrives. Last year I was fortunate to purchase an Antman & the Wasp piece and this year I grabbed this beautiful piece! There were actually 2 other pieces I had spotted first but they were spoken for before I could purchase them. This piece is unique as it features the incredible inks of Paul Neary who was the inker of most of Alan's early work before Mark Farmer became his regular inker. Some of the proceeds of this purchase were going to Paul so it was all for a good cause! Alan is one of the most under rated Batman artists of all time! His short run on the Batman titles are among my favorite Batman stories ever!Social/Sharing |

At this point, Mark has inked so much of Alan's work that you might almost forget what beautiful work Paul did with Alan back in the day. This is a perfect reminder. Simply gorgeous!

Mark Farmer is awesome, but Neary's juicy line has always been my favorite inks on Davis. Great piece--congrats on snagging a winner! I never get there in time to find these kind of gems direct from the artist...

Thanks for the kind words everyone! My first exposure to Alan's work was on Batman and the Outsiders. After that I hooked on his short run on Detective Comics where he laid the ground work for his definitive Caped Crusader! That was even more refined in Batman Full Circle, Batman's appearance in The Nail and ultimately my favorite Batman story by Davis in Batman Black and White!

Mike it was great to see you as well! I'm glad you passed up on this piece, but I would have been equally happy with the Dr Strange piece! It's a win win situation when looking through Alan's art, they are all beautiful! I was extremely happy and fortunate with the pieces I picked up!

Batman knocks out 3 classic villains at the same time! Even Bruce Lee can't do that! Great artwork!
