Description

In 2010, with the publication of Batman: Hidden Treasures, fans were finally given the opportunity to see an artistic pairing that had all but come to be regarded as "fanboy rumor" or "wishful thinking". Begun as a Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight offering over fifteen years ago, the project was completed but then shelved when the editorial direction did not allow for it in the then current continuity.

Scripted by Ron Marz, penciled by Wrightson and inked by Nowlan this Batman and Solomon Grundy story was told entirely in splash panels with this page showing the main players in a quieter moment.

Prior to seeing this story I was in the camp that would maintain that "Only Wrightson should ink Wrightson." That Nowlan stepped up and did an incredible job is a position held by no less than Bernie Wrightson himself and I was thrilled to be on hand at HeroesCon 2011 to witness the exchange between these two legendary artists.

Very nice! I own one of these myself, and I agree, Nowlan did a great job of inking The Master's pencils.

To have the penciled and the inked page side-by-side is great, to see how the ink was applied to the original concept is an awesome sight...

I thought my Mignola inked Wrightson was as unique and special as it gets, but after seeing this in person, I stand corrected. Thank you for showing me this during my visit. I didn't think anything could raise my opinion of Kevin as an inker, but this piece does just that. You could study this for hours.
