DescriptionAh the 60’s…the decade of my birth – and that of so many stories. Things seemed simpler then. When the bad guy had apparently killed your best friend, you finished your cigarette, had a martini, and then donned your transistor powered armor to take on the Ruskie! Of course, he was wearing inferior armor to copy the more inventive Americans, but we all knew the quality wasn’t the same. In the good ol’ USA, as the commercial used to say “the quality goes in, before the name goes on”.Speaking of names, this splash was penciled by Don Heck, and inked by none other than Wally Wood. Back in the 60’s the splash started the story off, and telling the story – more than striking a pose – was the ultimate goal. Take a look at the splash to Tales of Suspense #71, and remember when…. I like that Iron Man guy. I think he'll become a popular hero for Marvel. ;) Fantastic addition, I'm definitely jealous, as an Iron Man splash page collector.

A twice up silver age Marvel hero splash by Heck? Formula: Art + History = Keeper.

I can always count on you Ron to give us good "Wood". ;-0 Seriously though, great pickup. These title splashes are the real cream of the silver age crop. Well done!!!

I will always remember Don Heck as being THE Iron Man artist. Woody's inks give Don's pencils some additional class - and you can't go wrong with Titanium Man as a memorable villain for the mix!

While I am not the biggest Heck fan, Wally Wood's legendary brushwork really livens up the page. But for me, perhaps the greatest treat here is the dialogue, "For NOTHING can save you now!" How awesome is that? Maybe as awesome as the blooming collection you have here on CAF. Thanks again for sharing.

Another stunning addition! The incredible cast of creators and characters always stands out in my mind when I think of TOS and this splash is an incredible example of the talent that went into each issue.

Amazing, exquisite, I would trade my Grandma for a page like this-- but I have to say, I think Wally Wood has mistaken Happy for Rick Jones here....

Amazing splash! It sure seems as though Wally Wood contributed more than just the inking, too.

What price victory? Probably about half the current auction value of this beauty!!

I love coming back to this wonderful splash page, from such a key book (for me anyway). Wally Wood over Don Heck equates to vintage Siver Age quality!
