DescriptionIf anyone were to be able to follow Dale Keown's epic 90's run on the Incredible Hulk, I'd have to say it was Gary Frank. Happy to finally add a page from that run to the collection.I do find it interesting that both Keown and Frank's art have evolved to be entirely different than their 90s work, which for me, makes these pages even more valuable. As much as I love their current work, the 90s art just holds a lot more nostalgia for me and the fact that they likely won't replicate them in commission work (not that those opportunities are easy to come by either), makes me love this page even more. I believe Fred Fredericks inked this but am not sure to be honest - both Joe Rubenstein and Fredericks are credited on this issue. Any help would be appreciated. Edit: thanks J H for the inking cred assist! Social/Sharing |

Without skipping a beat, Gary Frank followed Dale Keown. Those were some big shoes to fill, and Gary crushed it. Awesome page, congrats!

Such a great string of artistic runs on Hulk. Buscema followed by Byrne, followed by Keown, followed by Frank. It's no wonder he was my second favorite character after Spidey. Really, really, enjoyed Gary's stint on the book. And I totally agree, Dale and Gary's Marvel work was better than anything they did afterwards. Congrats on this great page!

Fantastic splashy page! Yeah, Gary Frank's work in the '90s was great stuff.

I remember and really enjoyed this storyline in Hel. I loved when they dropped heroes in Asgardian realms for stories. They were always so dark and gritty. And totally agree on Frank and Keown, too. Their styles have changed so much. It's fun to see, but my nostalgia is with their later work, too. As for inkers, I found this in the grand comic database: "Joe Rubinstein [as Rubenstein] (pages 1-13); Fred Fredericks (pages 14-22)," so it looks like Fredericks. Great page. Congrats!

Thank you! And totally agreed, always fun when they fused the different heroes and worlds.

Don't mind me. I'm just sifting through the bodies at Hulk's feet looking for a trace of blue fur.

Totally agree about GF assuming the penciling chores after Keown. I was really bummed to hear Dale was leaving the book as his work really spoke to me (as I was when Sal left, as I was when McFarlane left, etc.) but Gary Frank kept the book at a very high level and continued to make the merged Hulk his own style. This is a great page - congrats!

Oustanding splash of the Hulk doin' what he do...raging! The Hela headshot is a nice bonus, too, and definitely ups the storytelling factor. Totally agree regarding Keown and Frank's earlier vs. later work, though I'm much more familiar with Keown's. Different, but both equally good. And I agree. Love seeing these "older" pieces, and they definitely feel more memorable knowing things have changed. Again, not for better worse, just different :) Congrats!
