Description

I had a real soft spot for the Joe Gill/ Sam Glanzman Hercules title from Charlton when I saw it in reprints as a kid. Glanzman found a way to utilize his usual Kubert-like immediacy, but bent it toward ancient Greek amphora motifs just enough to give it a unique, arresting aesthetic, even to a clueless 13-year-old from the sticks.

This rough is probably the most ephemeral piece I own, as it is on brittle, tanned, ultra-thin vellum, but I've never seen another piece of Glanzman Hercules stuff out there. This one is for the cover of issue 11. Had to snag it.

Trip down memory lane. Think I picked this up in the old 3 books in a bag idea.

Popular in two decades as this was in the 60's and also reprinted with wider distribution in the 70's. Remarkable as it was seen as educational showing history and mythology of the Hercules legend.
