Description

My second Render Evil for Evil piece. Crimson Avenger shoots Deathstroke to avenge the murders of Phantom Lady (in Infinite Crisis) and Ryan Choi, the Atom (the Titans special ), with an assist from Spectre avatar Dex-Starr, the Red Lantern rage cat as he recruits her for the Spectre.

The piece has multiple inspirations and the source of 2/3 of them was my friend Damon Owens. Ever since I saw the awesome Crimson Vengeance featuring Crimson Avenger and Falcon by Geoff Isherwood (later inked by Bob Almond) in Damon's gallery, I have wanted to commission a Crimson Avenger piece. When DC Comics killed Ryan Choi for no apparent reason (other than a plot device to gel Deathstroke's villainous Titans team), I started planning a piece where Crimson Avenger avenged Ryan's death.

Now years (and at least one totally different DC continuity) later, Damon introduced me to the commissions of Steve Erwin. First, I commissioned Steve to draw Doggone justice (featuring Vigilante antagonist the Homeless Avenger and Krypto). After that great experience, I remembered Steve drew Deathstroke's first series and knew he would be the perfect artist for this one.

This is just an inspired idea, having Crimson Avenger go after Deathstroke for killing BOTH Ryan Choi and the Phantom Lady. More brillance from the mind of Shannon Weathers and artistic excellence from Steve Erwin. The best of both worlds.
