DescriptionOriginal write up: "From Frank's first issue of Daredevil. Unfortunately, Murdock is not in his DD costume, but check out the grave marker for Matt...."Addendum: Since I posted this page many years ago without much fanfare, a sub-set of original art collecting has taken hold of our 'investment' hobby now. Without identifying the numerous collectors who have elevated birth and first appearance original art pages to all time highs, this page is from Miller's first work on the Daredevil title that started the legend. The real first appearance was in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man 27. As a result, I changed the title heading now that I have moved this to my Featured gallery section. Social/Sharing |

Amazing page from an historic issue! I love that last panel... so dramatic! And who needs DD in costume when you have the Death-Stalker around? :)

Phenomenal! What a fabulous Miller/Janson Daredevil page! I love the shifting POV that Miller uses here. It's almost cinematic, alternating from a wide shot from above to a closeup of Catman taunting Matt Murdock, then shifting to a shot from behind Murdock to reveal Deathstalker on the steps of the Mausoleum and then to a closeup of Deathstalker. Hard to believe it's Miller's first Daredevil. He's is already showing his mastery of the the comic medium. Love, love, love it!

Incredible, memorable page!
I remember obtaining DD 158 as a kid...going through the price guides and seeing Daredevil #158 being very expensive made it a tantalizing prize to get. But the kid in me didn't yet grasp artists or writers...and so for a long time, young Ron thought the elevated value was because it was a "death" issue for what must be a very importart Death Stalker character. Ah, the good ole days :)
