DescriptionFor years I have dreamed of owning an original E. C. COMICS JACK DAVIS piece and being a horror hound, I've kept an open eye for something in that genre. But with Davis horror pieces starting around $1500 for only dialog pages without a hint of any ghouls or even a drop of blood, I kind of gave up hope. Recently I stumbled across this gorgeous 1955 WW1 page at a great price and I knew I better grab it before it was gone! I love the Maltese Crosses in the bottom panel and dig that downed jerry in the first shot. Davis' "floppy jalopies"(planes) look so rickity, it seems they could fall apart at any moment. Davis is also known as the master of cross hatching and this page displays plenty. Not many living masters still around, but for my money, Davis is tops in my book. One of the very few artists I would book a flight to actually meet face to face. We love you Jack! Published May/June 1955 from the story "FOOTNOTE."Update: I finally met the legend who has greatly influenced me throughout my entire life, Mr. Jack Davis! Just as soon as Davis laid eyes on my page, he said, "Whoa- did I do that? That's really something. You know, I was a much younger man when I did that piece." Just the most humble and friendliest guy you ever could meet. His whole family were delightful. Needlesstosay - the brush-pen Davis used to sign this piece is now proudly displayed in my studio. Long Live Davis! Social/Sharing |

Very nice!! Davis put more detail and work into some of his pages - this is certainly one of them.

Really outstanding page! I have a Davis Aces High page as well, but as yet have not had the high honor and pleasure of meeting the great man, himself! Love the additional images!

Man this is such a cool piece! I really like Jack's Mad Magazine stuff.. but love his War / Horror work from the early days of EC... would also consider giving away my left pinky for the Creepy 1 cover.

Super cool! I met Jack when I had him come and do a talk about his work, I was so upset I put his slides in the projector holder upside down. We did a poster together. He is the nicest, sweetest guy I ever met. He is greatly missed.
