Description

Circa late 60's early 70's this Wrightson piece is clearly an homage to Frazetta's Canaveral Plate style inking. It's all carefully considered brushwork. Purposefully composed, the two forms grapple in perfect opposition to one another. Bernie accentuates the violent dance by leaving open areas where the figures press against one another suggesting a singular form. The lush inks counterbalance contrast perfectly. For such an early work, it speaks to Wrightsons' innate skill and intuition as an illustrator. Though I've never seen it reproduced before, such a quality piece could have been produced for and published in a fanzine of the period.
