DescriptionBettie Page Comics #1Dark Horse, 1996 Jumpin' Jungle Jive Script: Jeff Gelb; Dave Stevens Pencils: Bret Blevins Inks: Bret Blevins; Mike Manley; Dave Stevens Letters: Michael Taylor I have aped every Betty figure in this story at least 3 times. Fantastic fluid artwork throughout the whole fun-filled 10 pages. My understanding of the art chore breakdown is that Mr. Stevens did not ink as much of this story as whats commonly believed. As the deadline loomed large, Mike Manley swooped in, did his best Stevens impersonation and got it done. On this page it was related that Mr. Stevens inked two "Glen" Wood faces, the one in the circle insert panel and the one in panel 4. I've been told he did little to none of the Betty figures in this story, oddly enough... Check out Mr. Blevins CAF room. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=46646 Social/Sharing |

What a dream of a page! And I really enjoyed your detailed explanation as to whodunit. That "Ed Wood" looks a bit like Dave himself, no?

So, Dave Stevens didn't ink Betty's face in the last panel? Still nice though.

Still nice though. The page is very clean and the only place you can see any redrawing in the pencils is on Betties face in the last panel. what is inked is very different from the original pencils. Could Stevens have redrewn the face while he had the pages and just didn't get around to inking it before they ran out of time? dont know, yet it looks like how he draws her. though i have no confirmation either way on it...

I probably couldn't go through the story and pick out what was DS or not. However, the 2 instances that you identified on this page certainly have a nuanced technique.

Masterfully done and very fun page, that beautiful close-up of Betty and, of course, Stevens' inks are the icing on the cake!
