DescriptionThe greatest of thanks to Godfather Spencer Beck for making this happen and to Todd DeZago for shepherding it along the way and to Mr. NICK CARDY who at 92 years old just gets better and better. Mr. Cardy is a true professional, he sent me a prelim to approve and we talked many times -- the talks alone about comics and his life were well worth the price of the commission --Nick Cardy is one of the greatest DC artists of all time and I was thrilled that he would be willing to tackle Green Lantern Comics #1 as a One Minute Later. Now, Mr. Cardy said that he felt the original villain looked to scrawny as if Lantern would simply point and tell him to go home so he bulked him up a bit -- what a great choice. To help the colorist, Mr. Cardy attached a sheet of tracing paper over the piece and then colored in his view of the colors -- see piece below showing Mr. Cardy's hand-drawn colors on tracing paper. As additional drawings below, I have put the Commission by itself in hi rez, the pencil prelim and the hand colored version..please take a look. Once again, THANK YOU Spencer Beck -- the greatest art agent on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Social/Sharing |

wow Michael - I can't decide which is better, the art or your experience. I think I might side with the conversations with Nick. I'd be amazed to hear what you guys talked about. Major congrats. Spencer is THE MAN!

"Wow!" doesn't really say it, but I can't find another word. To be able to create this level of art at 92? Standing ovation for the legendary Mr. Cardy.

wow, Wow, WOW! Congratulations! Simply a terrific piece by one of the greats. Love the lushness of the inking, and the more dynamic composition. While the original cover is a classic, Mr. C really took it to a new level.

And I love seeing the process in the prelims. Terrific stuff!

What a wonderful piece of work. The original Green Lantern is a big favorite and Nick nailed him. A very dynamic pose and wonderfully rendered. BTW, the bad guy is a creep; glad GL got him. Yeah, I should judge a book by its cover, but look at that guy!
