Description

Second of 2 Black Panther posts today involving my Comic Art Fans Live buddies! Was lucky enough to be involved in a Secret Santa exchange with some of the CAF Live alums and THIS was moi’s gift, courtesy of “WonderFingWoman” ( https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=158198) – MUCH appreciated, lady!

Got BP, his main baddie Klaw, and one of the white apes/gorillas, the nemeses of the black panthers. This is where M’Baku, better known as Man-Ape, gets his look, namesake, and powers. With a Wakandan background! I like that you don’t really know if BP and Klaw are teaming up, as it kinda looks like that? But why would THEY be teaming up?! I think there’s something else going on here. Yeah, that’s why I went with 2 “vs” in the CAF title post :) Some great figure work, particularly on the gorilla, and some nice subtle copics. Also like how you can slightly make out the circles coming from Klaw’s sound cannon.

Wasn’t familiar with Joltin Johnny Lucas’s work but what a way to get introduced, huh?!

WonderFingWoman - great to get this, but even better to have gotten to know you and the CAF Live crew over the last year or 2! Thank you!

No way the King would team up with the Claw! Looks like Claw wants the ape knocked out to have his one true prize...The Panther's dying breath! Wicked piece!

Dig the ink wash. Great way to flesh out the background but keep the focus on the characters.

WonderrFingWoman knows and this was a touchdown on all fronts :) Love the variations in the hue (markers I believe?) which just helps the piece stand out that much more! Nice job, WoderFingWoman and congrats, Kahlil!

Very fun piece. I love the white gorilla especially. Who doesn't love gorillas? But, isn't Killmonger BP's main baddie?

Oh man, you gotta love gorillas.  And it's funny - I never thought of how prominently they're featured in comics.  Grodd, Monkeyman, there's even Gorilla-Man!  And when I think back I do like looking at the art featuring them!

As far as BP's main baddie...good question.  Killmonger and BP may be main rivals as their both Wakandans, vying for the throne, and the like.  But Klaw was his first baddie way back in their first appearances in FF, responsible for the death of his dad, and is just a straight up bad guy.  So I guess cuz of that, yeah, I consider Klaw the guy if I had to narrow to one. Thanks, man!

And I never thought I'd feel this way
And Vibranium concerned
I'm glad I got the art today
That I do believe, M'Baku

And if gift exchange goes away
Jill, then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then you still send Black Panther

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing Lucas always count on me, for Klaue
What Wakanda's for
For good art and bad art
I'll be on your side F'ing more
That's what friends are for

Don't trust him BP, he's just gonna sound blast you in the back. I've never heard of this artist, either, but it's a really nice piece. I like his take on BP, and the subtle ink wash is very nice. Great 1-2 post today. Congrats!

Really beautiful piece!  Black Panther can sure leap!  I think Klaw has been biding his time for that perfect moment to burst out of the foliage ... maybe while the other two are in mid strike.  Oh, and I just noticed that you now get a thumbnail of the art piece to the right of the comment box!  That's very cool!  That way you can look at the piece whilst you make your remarks.  Bill Cox, you've done it again!

Lucas is a super underrated artist.  I picked up a Deadpool page from him a few years back and he was a pleasure to deal with.   This is better than any holiday gift I got last year.

I wasn't familiar with this artist either, but wow this is a great piece. Love the dynamics and the details.

Ha ha, appreciate you jumping in with your own verse, Wonder FingWoman!  We'll have to string Marcus's, mine, and yours together...CAF karaoke?!  ;)  And yes!  I was introduced to John via this GREAT gift, and it looks like a few others were, too.  Thanks, again!
