DescriptionKeeping the FF baddies coming with this head shot of the Devourer of Worlds by Mike del Mundo! Big G's a little different than a typical villain as there's a "force of nature" element to him, but he's definitely been THE antagonist more than a handful of time :)I'm a huge fan of Mike's. That includes both his interiors and covers, and for the latter, he's so creative in a graphic sense, upping the essence of the characters in unique ways in his images. Check out his recent string of Kang covers as an example, amongst many others! But alas getting an original is tough as works almost exclusively digitally. BUT was one of a handful of requests at the last NYCC so I'm stoked! Gave him a few options and he went with Galactus as he's a fan of the character. Nice pencils giving an organic quality, and dig that contemplative expression. More FF bad guys coming! Social/Sharing |

First time I've ever seen a "pencils only" piece by Del Mundo and wow, those lines are beautiful!

He's one of my all time favorite modern artists. I think you'll especially enjoy his X-men covers.
Congrats Kahlil! So glad you were able to pick this up.

Saw you and George's comments and it felt like an opening :)
I mentioned the recent Kang covers in my description, and he also did some great Legion covers, but here's 2 killer ones for you and me, Jason:
Black Panther cover channeling Kirby: STL027218 (2063×3131) (previewsworld.com)
X-Men cover with Mystique - CLEVER stuff: STL185417.jpg (990×1503) (previewsworld.com)
Mike's tough to top in terms of mixing design with pure illustration! Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

Some serious skills here -- crazy how good this looks with almost minimalist strokes!

He'll eat up and wear the crown
Seen set up, and I've been shot down
You're on lists names that I've never found
Mundo me not there
Our escape is impossible
This commission Del Mundo
Maybe he's adorable
Mundo did with care
I'm so tired of being hungry
I still have some death to give
Won't you show me with your deadly stare?
Everybody wants some planets to feast on
Put your buddy's best art line, and dream on

To get non digital work from Mike is awesome. Isn't it a treat sometimes to give the artist the choice? When inspired like here you often get much more than if you overlord like an art director. You mentioned villains coming. Although villain is not the word I would necessarily use to describe Dr. Doom in all his complexity, I hope that's one you're foreshadowing. Great get my friend. A+

Yeah, artist choice can definitely work out! I often ask if there are certain characters, or types of characters, artists like drawing and pare down some options from there for a commission. Has worked out pretty well so far.
Yeah, Doom's a baddie, but I do love the complexity as you say. I've always dug how he and T'Challa share that regal connection, though obviously most often on opposite sides. BP's one of my fave heroes, and Doom's definitely a fave villain. Hard to narrow to one but if I had to he'd be right there in the discussion.
I've got some Doom posted in the gallery, including in 2023, but I do have a couple other things in the works :) Thanks for the add, Michael!

SO tough to get something from Del Mundo, congrats! I love the side of the pencil rendering happening all over this.

These pencils are fantastic! Galactus is such a more complex character than "I'm hungry, gotta eat your planet, sorry dudes," so I really love that contemplative look on his face. I really hope the new, upcoming Fantastic Four franchise can finally do the character justice. They should use this piece for inspiration! Congrats man.

Man, if they could do a Galactus epic and make it right?! Whew. And when you say "do the character justice", I also think of Doom! I know we've seen 2 movie iterations of him, and I know the moviemakers meant well, but those were whiffs. Really looking forward to seeing what the MCU does. Thanks, Paul!

This is AWESOME. GREAT work by Mr. del Mundo - I love the bold pencil strokes on the helm, giving a feel of timeless, ancient, cosmic perseverance, and the way Mike adapts to (and incorporates) the key Kirby elements into his style (or would that be vice versa?). The galactic backdrop is lovely, and Galactus bursting out of its frame underscores his scope and majesty. A really, really, REALLY beautiful piece, K! Congrats on scoring such a strong (and non-digital! :) ) example!

Great point, Paul. One one hand, it's fun that he's a big all-powerful force of nature that is like a cosmic competitive eater. But my favorite stories are when Galan takes off the helmet and talks to Mr Fantastic, or we get a Sad Galactus storyline. One of my favorite pages is the Secret Wars page where he's looking sadly at his home, regretting what he has to do next. Simple but excellent posing choice here by, Del Mundo. Really nice one, Kahlil.

You know I dig some Secret Wars, J, and spot on - definitely a telling moment for the big guy. I can picture that panel vividly. Also love how you say "Galan" vs "Galactus" in that sentence :) Thanks for the add, man!

Mike is a great artist and there is so much expressive power in Galactus's face. Well done.
